The Data Information & Access Team within DDTS offers an exciting opportunity for a Library Officer.
The Defra Library team provides a variety of customer groups with access to a wide range of information resources. Defra library is part of the Government KIM (GKIM) professional community that works across departments, agencies, and arms’ length bodies (ALBs) to support and promote the creation, organisation and exploitation of information and knowledge. Our customers are committed to basing policy processes, research and decision making on the best possible evidence and Defra Library plays an important role in enabling this by providing a gateway to a wide range of high-quality information resources. We strive to provide an outstanding, sustainable service that adds real value by empowering colleagues to make the best possible use of the library resources and services.
You will deliver the library services that DDTS provides to APHA, Natural England and Defra as well as other customers groups.

Responsibilities
- Provide a library enquiry service to all library customers.
- Provide a document delivery service from the library collection and external resources (print and electronic), including reviewing procedures and writing guidance.
- Provide access to online resources: trouble shooting access problems, provision of training to customers for Library resources - databases, electronic journals and reference management software (EndNote).
- Acquisitions, full record cataloguing, classification & indexing.
- Produce Current Awareness Bulletins and newsletters.
- Copyright advice to staff on publication under Crown Copyright and (re-) use of third-party material.
- Library communications: develop library pages on SharePoint online, write newsletter notices for customers.
Skills and Experience
- Library or information qualification OR significant relevant experience in library-related environment.
- Sound communications skills (verbal and written).
- Good customer service skills and excellent attention to detail.
- IT-literate, including Outlook, Word, Excel and IT applications.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Self-starter demonstrating initiative and able to prioritise when juggling several tasks.
- Flexible team player, we are a small team and you will work flexibly when needed to help us deliver.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £25,915.00-£30,402.00 per year
