We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Hackney to assist with the appointment of a Library Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion.

Summary:
- The Libraries Officer post acts as the first point of contact for library customers and facilitates their effective use of the library service.
- To supervise the operation of the library on a daily basis and to take charge when required and provide a high level of customer satisfaction for the library service.
Responsibilities:
- To take responsibility for ensuring that contractors adhere to policies and procedures whilst in the library
- To take the lead on project based work including outreach and development and lead on an area of responsibility commensurate with the new Libraries strategy, for example lead working groups and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- To organise staff deployment, supervise weekend and relief staff and maintain high levels of teamwork
- To supervise the operation of the library on a daily basis and to take charge when required and provide a high level of customer satisfaction for the library service.
- To be responsible for ensuring that the library is opened and closed correctly and that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
- To champion the use of self service technology and to encourage customers to use this facility wherever possible
- To demonstrate a general knowledge of stock and online resources and to help customers in their use
- To ensure the library environment is welcoming, vibrant and a safe place to visit
- In conjunction with the Area Libraries Manager, to handle cash transactions and maintain cash records
- To take responsibility for promoting services available in the library including planning, arranging and delivering events, activities, storytimes, reading groups, class visits and promotions.

- You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.

- Available to work evenings and weekends as required
