About the department
Acquisition Finance is a global platform that responsible for a number of ING's relationships with private equity / financial sponsors, and for the origination, execution and distribution of leveraged finance transactions in support of leveraged buyouts. The platform covers ING’s footprint through regional offices in key locations and is a pillar of ING’s capital velocity strategy.
About the position
The Acquisition Finance origination team in London is seeking an Analyst with leveraged finance experience of around 1-2 years. The London team covers UK, CEE and Nordics. This position will involve working on the execution of sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions and supporting origination initiatives. You will work in live deal teams led by senior bankers, gain credit experience across various industries and work on a range of loan/bond transactions. The position requires a self-starter who is able to take the initiative to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team setting.
Responsibilities
Technical
  • Business Analysis – Research potential targets including completion of company, market and valuation analysis. Consider comparable debt and valuation multiples based on market data. Prepare a pack of relevant information for seniors to consider and a one page summary of the key features of the opportunity
  • Financial Modelling – Preparation of detailed financial models which identify key business drivers. Model sensitivity cases based on discussions with the deal team and/ or the findings of due diligence. Prepare covenant models with support from the Associate.
  • Presentations – Prepare pitch book presentations which communicate key thoughts to the client and the benefits of working with ING. Dependent on experience, present sections of pitches to clients
  • Credit Papers – Responsible for the completion and accuracy of system and compliance related requirements to accompany credit packs. Support the Associate and VP on preparation of the credit pack, specifically the business and market and financial appendices. Present first stage reports to the credit committee
  • Due Diligence –Review financial and commercial due diligence and highlight issues.
  • Legal – Support seniors on agreeing confidentiality letters, release letters and hold harmless letters and build awareness of the main commercial points and what the acceptable internal parameters are
  • Syndication – Prepare the first draft the syndication Information Memorandum and management presentation. Respond to investor questions, in conjunction with senior colleagues
Management/ Operations
  • Process – Support the Associate on the deal funding process, liaising with internal teams as necessary
  • Support the Associate in obtaining KYC information in line with internal and regulatory standards
  • Make recommendations as to how processes can be improved and obtain support and assistance in implementing ideas from senior colleagues
  • Internal Relationships – Develop contacts within the Risk Management, LCM, DCM, Legal, portfolio team, agency and Compliance teams as well as other “AF Teams”
  • People Development- Proactively manage and involve graduates and interns to ensure they get a good insight into leveraged finance and are able to contribute to the team during their placement
  • Engage in all aspects of underwriting, arranging and lending in order to originate leveraged finance transactions
  • Produce screening memos and credit approval packages reflecting due diligence, financial modelling, and legal documentation review
  • Assemble client marketing presentations and internal presentations as needed
  • Complete LBO models, comparable companies / precedent transactions analyses, rating models and return assessments
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of other teams, ranging from sector teams to specific departments (e.g., Risk, LCM, Legal) to Acquisition Finance colleagues across the globe
Qualifications and Competencies
  • A Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Mathematics or related quantitative field
  • Leveraged finance experience of around 1-2 years
  • Understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • You are a driven individual with ability to work under limited direct supervision

  • You are a highly detail oriented and able to handle several projects at a time in a fast-paced environment
