Job Description
Financial Accountant duties include:
Review and monitor the clinical system financial transactions to ensure correct patient debit and credit balances, providing detailed and accurate analysis to relevant teams for action.- Oversee the analysis and reporting of debt across the clinical system highlighting discrepancies. along with identification of aged debts and credit control procedures to recover.
- Provide monthly analysis of top ten practice debt ensuring that practice debt reviews are provided to these practices in order to reduce overall debt.
- Provide regular patient debt training to practice staff to ensure that practice can manage practice debt.
- Ensure that the Payment Online Co-ordinators set up and remove clinicians from NHS Compass in a timely manner.
- Month end procedures posting journals, providing summary patient debt and patient in credit reporting to highlight any issues.
- Responsible for line management of two Assistant Financial Accountants, Debt Collection Unit Credit Controllers and the Payment Online Administrators providing support and working to help develop skills and experience.
- Preparation of the monthly and quarterly patient charges creditor reporting highlighting any data discrepancies.
- Monthly reconciliations for NHS monies received against NHS contracts and NHS schedules highlighting any non-payments.
- Provide monthly analysis on fixed discounts given at practice and highlight any unusual activity.
- Assisting with the preparation of the complex monthly balance sheet reconciliation for the payback provision for underperformance to the NHS identifying any potential risk exposure.
- Assisting with the NHS year end reconciliation process.
- Ad-hoc duties such as preparation of information for the external auditors and assistance with some internal audit testing.
- Continually work to improve the quality of the Financial Accounts balance sheet reconciliations, so that balance sheet risks are easily identified.
People
- Effectively manage direct report staff ensuring their responsibilities and work is executed within time frames set.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, internal and external.
Process
- Review monthly debt reporting with direct reports.
- Complete monthly complex balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review of direct report staff balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure all team processes are fully documented including step by step user guides for key procedures.
- Identify and suggest on-going areas of improvement.
The Successful Applicant
The successful Financial Accountant candidate will:
Be part qualified with ACA / ACCA / CIMA- Have a proven track record within a similar role
- Be able to work to tight deadlines
- Be an excellent written and verbal communicator
- Be proficient in MS Excel (Vlookups, pivots)
- Knowledge of balance sheet accounting, preferably from a multi site environment
