As a Lead Wireless Network Architect, you will be actively managing standards and coaching our engineering teams to modernize, deploy, operate, and maintain world class network and perimeter platforms and products that enable our highly distributed global business for site, fleet, asset and IoT connectivity, required to deliver against our integrator business strategy.
You will be exposed to a wide and challenging range of needs and opportunities requiring you to engage closely with stakeholders across all Maersk as you mature, evolve and operate our portfolio of networking and perimeter capabilities.

The Network Architecture & Conformance function is pivotal to our transformation, it is a central team within Network Architecture & Engineering, responsible for the network and perimeter infrastructure engineering and the associated underpinning technology services which run and secure the technology engine of Maersk
Reporting to the Head of Network Architecture & Conformance you will serve as a Lead Wireless Network Architect. This role is responsible for architectural and solution leadership across transformative initiatives focused on modernizing, scaling, segmenting and automating Maersk’s global network and perimeter infrastructure which provides the fixed and wireless connectivity services that underpin the integrator strategy.
It has a critical role to play as we continue to develop our long-term multi-technology and multi-product network and perimeter capabilities, connecting our asset, sites and people on land and at sea. Specific Job Requirements -
- Collect, collate, analyse, develop and agree wireless services requirements (including capabilities, systems, process and organisation) relating to new Maersk Technology/Business proposition releases, new capabilities, or additional network deployment and create the appropriate specification and impact assessment to meet those requirements.
- Work across Network Architecture & Engineering with supporting resources to define the specification and impact assessments ensuring a collaborative approach and consensus agreement on the technical, service and commercial specification of the network and perimeter services to be delivered.
- Lead the identification and definition of the right set of physical, virtual and cloud networking, WLAN, 4G/LTE|5G Private Networks, FWA, GEO | MEO | LEO technologies to be used across all consumption domains and uses cases, driving the effort to templatize and automate those technologies to be used at scale across Maersk.
- Design and document multi-tenant and geo-distributed wireless networking solutions which are unprivileged, scalable, reliable, secure and programmable through software, inclusive of the integration points between components that enable the end-to-end converged product or service.
The role requires the provision of end-to-end wireless network solution design leadership and governance into various engineering aspects across development and In-Life support. In addition to this, the role holder will provide guidance to engineering teams, both internal and partner/vendor, steering their output into a cohesive set of artefacts and towards achieving delivery of a quality solution with well-defined northbound/southbound interfaces and operating parameters.

- Be a world class expert in wireless network solution design, across WI-FI, Cellular Radio and Satellite connectivity, acting as a SPOC and responsible towards Product Architecture ensuring our capabilities are in line with architectural standards and product requirements.
- Lead the definition and execution of technology to encompass interoperability between wireless network infrastructures and fleet, transport and warehouse management systems including IIoT endpoints, maritime vessels, aircraft, rail and road transport vehicles
- To proactively engage with internal stakeholders early in the design and development of new technology or buisness products to propose and promote standard offerings from Network Architecture & Engineering.
- Participate in discussions with internal stakeholders, to influence upstream product and or application architectures and offerings, infrastructure standardisation and related non-functional support capability for order fulfilment, service assurance and performance management.
- Lead the bottom-up-build process to support Network Product Architect(s) in preparing capability and product development budgets and business cases in line with the outline specifications.
- Ensure that development scopes are well-bounded and any dependencies or constraints are clearly identified and support Network Product Architect(s) in the impact assessment of any changes to outline specifications.
- Ensure the successful incremental design, build, deploy and operate of the current capability stack while modernizing and transforming to enable the future strategy.
- Provide wireless networking capabilities as a products with streamlined fulfilment journeys such that Maersk is self-sufficient in the company’s ability to deliver on its strategic remit.
- Within your area lead on the in-scope wireless network integration solution designs of business acquired through M&A such that it realises competitive advantage for Maersk.
What I'll be doing – your accountabilities? -
E2E Systems Engineering – Specification and solution design of next-generation Wireless connectivity platforms and products across the Enterprise Edge, Network Edge and Cloud::
- Drive adoption of a product and agile based mindset and transform ways of working from project-based to that of a product-based organization
- Identify, delineate and document the essential building block specifications and design the integration points that make up end-to-end network perimeter solutions
- Lead the underpinning bottom-up-build process to support budgeting and investment cases
- Ensure that perimeter products are easily consumed “As-a-Service’ and programmable through software
- Engaging with the component design teams steering their output in alignment with architectural standards and product requirements
- Responsible for the overall integrity of end-to-end solutions across physical and virtual infrastructure
- Build internal, external and third-party supplier relationships to ensure full commitment and support in execution of the end-to-end solution
- Provide subject matter expertise to delivery and L1 operational teams to guide deployment and in-life troubleshooting of converged networking and perimeter services
The Candidate -
To be considered for this opportunity candidates will have the following capabilities.
- A demonstrable track record operating as a Senior Systems Engineer with substantial years experience in wireless network engineering and proven experience in 4G/LTE PMR, 5GC and RAN design
- Strong and credible background in within a Systems Integrator, Service Provider, or Defence sector, building and deploying a core and radio networks at scale and managing the challenges of migration from existing/legacy solutions, including support of spectrum acquisition
- Experience in wireless network product management, new product development, product marketing, market research, or industry analysis is strongly preferred
- Proven experience of leading a technical team to design access and core mobile networks, with expertise on the current best practice and technology roadmaps
- Deep knowledge of 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Long Range (IoT) radio access technology and deployment
- Good knowledge of Satellite Communications (RF/VSAT/GEO/LEO’s)
- Experience of Identification and documentation of telco-related cloud service, network, edge data centre, and radio access network orchestration design and development requirements
- Knowledge of system integration patterns management, and monitoring solutions for networks, including cloud-based solutions for network management
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of wireless technical specifications, including ETSI/3GPP RAN standards and forums O-RAN Alliance, TIP
- Detailed knowledge and skills in Wireless LAN fundamentals such as RF planning and design
- Wi-Fi RF survey experience (Active, Passive, Predictive)
- Requires detailed network development, integration, optimisation, standards (IETF, ITU, IEEE, MEF, ETSI, TMF, NIST and BIPM) knowledge and expertise across Layer 1 - 4 of the OSI stack
- Solid understanding of network routing, switching and security (e.g., BGP, 802.1Q, 802.11, IPSec, SSL/TLS, GRE, 802.1x, EAP-PEAP, EAP-TLS, WPA2-AES,Policy Based Access)
- Understanding of Azure networking and or cloud networking constructs of GCP or AWS
- Open networking experience: Routing Daemons (FRR, Bird, GoBGP), Linux Networking (eBPF, VPP, XDP), Tungsten Fabric, SONiC, Cumulus, or other Linux-based open NOS
- Strong expertise in Automation, IaC and configuration management tools: Python, Saltstack, Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, Cloud Formation & ARM templates; with demonstrable expertise of DevSecOps, Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and tools like Azure DevOps and Jira
