GENERAL ASSISTANT
Term Time only
The appointment will be reviewed on a yearly basis and will be required only
for as long as is determined necessary for the child/children in question.
Responsible to:
Principal/Learning Support Co-ordinator
Purpose of the job:
To be responsible to the Principal for the provision of assistance to teachers/classroom assistants in/outside school with care of pupils.

To be confirmed
Rate of Pay:
£20,441 - £20,812 (pro rata)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensuring the safe mobility and general supervision of the students within the school premises, including the playground, on school outings and transporting student belongings (if required).
2. Assisting with toileting/personal hygiene/dressing.
3. Use of specialist equipment for toileting and mobility for which specialist training is required.
4. Ensure students comply with normal school rules and routines during the school day.
5. Cleaning equipment connected with daily activities in classroom and assisting with the setting out of the equipment as directed.
6. Assisting teachers and classroom assistants with groups on outings, e.g. swimming educational outings, etc.
7. Accompanying teachers and classroom assistants with groups on outings, e.g. swimming, educational outings, etc.
8. Such other duties falling within the purview of the grade, as required.
General Conditions
1. All duties must be carried out to comply with:
(a) The Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978;
(b) Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements;
(c) Codes of Practice.
2. All duties will be carried out in the working conditions normally inherent in the particular job.
3. All necessary paperwork must be completed.
4. Duties will be carried out for jobs up to and including those in the same grade, provided such duties are within the competence of the employee.
Training
1. Employees will accept any training to facilitate the undertaking of duties for jobs up to and including their own grade.
2. Employees will accept training for jobs graded at higher levels than their own. Payment will only be made where there is a requirement by the authority for the higher level duties to be carried out.
3. Any other tasks as directed by the Principal which fall within the purview of the post.
