Location: Newport, Titchfield (Fareham), London, Darlington, Edinburgh or Manchester
Salary: £53,400 - £65,400 plus up to £7,500 skills allowance
Working Patterns: Flexible working, Full-time, Job share, Part-time, Compressed Hours

This role will see you lead a small team of junior & senior engineers, working on various projects pivotal to the development & continuous improvement of the ONS Design System - a key product within ONS that ensures consistency and speeds up development time. You'll directly influence the quality of products and services and be a big part of helping the Design System reach its full potential.
As an experienced software engineer, you'll be able to design, code, test & document complex work in accordance with design patterns, as well as bug & fault fixing following agreed procedures. You'll be happy to define approaches to understanding user stories, and able to design & execute test cases using standard testing techniques.
In addition, you'll be confident identifying & comparing best processes & methods to use for you & your team, including measuring and evaluating outcomes. Alongside this, you'll know how to work collaboratively, peer reviewing others' work, sharing knowledge and helping to support junior colleagues in their development.
On top of all of this, you will of course be an accomplished front-end software developer. You'll be familiar with at least some of the following technologies (and willing to learn others with our support):
- JavaScript/Node,Web (HTML/CSS)
- Sassy Cascading Style Sheets (SCSS)
- Templating languages (eg. nunjucks)
- build tools (eg. webpack, Gulp)
