Cromwell Place is a membership organisation providing a first-of-its-kind exhibition and working space for art professionals. Since opening in October 2020, we are home to an international community of some of the world’s most exciting galleries, collectors, advisors, foundations, institutions, and art businesses.

Located in the heart of South Kensington’s Museum district, our 15 galleries and 25 office spaces span five elegantly refurbished Grade II-listed townhouses. An area rich with history, South Kensington was originally known as Prince Albert’s ‘Albertopolis’ and developed into one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural centres.

As Kitchen Manager, you will run the kitchen independently and work alongside a Kitchen Porter. You will deliver exceptional produce-driven food for our restaurant, The Hazel Bar & Kitchen, as well as cater some of our exclusive events.

Person Specification: Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience in managing a high-quality kitchen at the Sous Chef level or above.
  • Possession of Food Safety & Hygiene Level 3 certification.
  • A solid understanding of modern British/European cooking styles and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to curate menus using the tools and facilities available.
  • Willingness to perform all areas of the role, including working on the pots.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the kitchen as directed by the Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Develop menus and create recipes in line with the concept and brief.
  • Ensure the efficiency of the kitchen and staff.
  • Achieve food cost targets and objectives.
  • Ensure the purchase of food within the agreed budget and maximise gross profit.
  • Forecast supply needs and estimate costs.
  • Maintain the quality and consistency of the food offering.
  • Ensure that the food servicing facility meets all necessary standards and regulations, including sanitary and safety guidelines.
  • Carry out all due diligence necessary for the safe operation of the kitchen and wider F&B areas.
  • Possess a full understanding of Food Safety Management, ensuring all staff adhere to H.A.C.C.P, and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Periodically review H.A.C.C.P systems according to the developing needs of the business, ensuring a 5-star food hygiene rating.
  • Fully comply with and own Environmental Health Officer visits and be responsible for any actions and requirements mandated by the EHO.
  • Conduct and intermittently review risk assessments where necessary.
  • Manage and take responsibility for other permanent or temporary kitchen staff members.
  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance and operations.
  • Manage the stock of food, ordering and monitoring yield and wastage.
  • Manage holiday requirements to ensure the kitchen is always manned.

Conditions of Work:

  • Permanent contract
  • £35,000 per annum
  • Hours of work: 45 hours a week including a 45min paid break per day (across 4/5 days per week)
  • Normal hours are Tuesday to Friday 8am – 6.30pm but may include the occasional weekend.

(Current kitchen hours are Tuesday – Friday 9.30am until 6pm).

  • Probation period: 3 months
  • Notice period: 2 months in writing on either side following successful probationary period.
  • 25 days annual holiday plus bank holidays
  • You will be eligible to participate in the business’s pension scheme
