In this Java Back End developer role, you will be joining a tech startup working at the cutting edge of natural language processing. The team has developed unique software using AI and Natural Language Processing that allows people to talk to retailers via an automated assistant, in messaging channels such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. They already work with a number of successful e-commerce platforms and high street brands.

Job description - Java Back End developer
In this Java Back End developer role, you will be joining a small, focused team working on their core platform. Some of the challenges you will handle include development of in-house Natural Language Understanding (NLU) services, integration with a mix of new external & legacy systems in the logistics space and continuing to improve the operational stack using AWS.
They are building to support millions of daily home deliveries and returns, your work will see widespread production use.
You will have the opportunity to help shape the direction of our technology by working directly with the CTO to make decisions.
Key responsibilities - Java Back End developer
- You can expect to work on a wide variety of technical solutions from user-facing applications to internal tools.
- Take pride in the code you ship and aim to do all the right things (test driven development, code reviews, “leave it better than you found it”) and expect you to contribute to the improvement of these development processes.
- Inputting in every stage of he development process
- Using Java and other technologies for back end development
- Development of in-house Natural Language Understanding (NLU) services
- Integration with a mix of new external & legacy systems in the logistics space and continuing to improve their operational stack using AWS.
- Working directly with the CTO on projects
- A Computer Science or Maths degree from university with a 2.1 or 1st grade
- 1-2+ years+ experience using Java commercially
- Experience with
- Building and integrating with RESTful Web Services
- Test Driven Development
- AWS
- Modern version control system such as Git
- Continuous integration and deployment
- Experience working in a start-up environment is beneficial but not essential
- A great graduate starting salary of £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
