As a Journalism Researcher you will assist programme teams with the production of content. You will also be able to identify, research and develop ideas and story treatments, often to tight deadlines.

You will contribute to the delivery of content and provide support across all output as required.

Main Responsibilities

You will provide vital support in the daily planning and production of our programmes.

You will work closely with the production team before, during and after the output of a production and be responsible for operating a variety of analogue and digital radio and TV equipment. You will be working in studio and in gallery, calling contributors, arranging circuits and using continuity cameras.

You will undertake a range of programme administration, including booking and coordinating production facilities; logging music output and trails & preparing programme scripts and running orders.

Day-to-day, you will find and book the most interesting and relevant guests to help drive our original journalism across a range of news stories.

You will do background research on the stories we cover and the people we interview and write clear and concise briefs for our presenters and programme producers.

More broadly, you will be encouraged come up with ideas for stories we should cover on our programmes. You will also have ideas for how our digital journalism can be improved.

Are you the right candidate?

You’ll be passionate about making an impact in Radio, TV and Digital news.

You will be across the big stories in Wales and the wider world but you will also have an eye on lesser reported issues that can connect with our audience.

You may not have worked in a newsroom before but you will demonstrate a hunger for daily news and be unfazed by working to clear deadlines. You will also know where to find reliable information and how to analyse data.

You will also show a real desire to find original stories and to tell those stories in a creative way, as well as demonstrating excellent tenacity and people-finding skills, and the ability to develop contacts.

You will be pro-active, work well in a team environment and demonstrate common sense in everything you do.

Some understanding of the BBC’s technical broadcast systems is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
