International Store Designer at Caffe Nero

Caffe Nero operates across the UK, Republic of Ireland, US, Poland, Cyprus, Turkey, Middle East and Sweden. We have been providing exceptional, hand-crafted coffee and fresh, high-quality food to our customers since 1997.

We are looking for an International Store Designer to join our Senior International Designer with all aspects of store design. This is a unique opportunity, with responsibility for the design and delivery of our new and existing stores in our international territories. These stores have a tailored look and feel, gained through strong, local, collaborative relationships and knowledge. Applying expertise in creative design, international store build & project management is a key part of this role, alongside the creation of outstanding store designs that uphold our customer experience & our brand positioning.


Key responsibilities:

  • Accountability for the evolution of our international store design (with a focus on materials and finishes), ensuring it’s fully reflective of the Caffè Nero brand, its evolution & customer experience, from conception through to build & site sign off, encompassing:
    • mood & sample boards
    • full construction drawings
    • supplier & collateral sourcing
    • site supervision through to final sign off
    • store dressing & finishing
  • Travelling confidently and independently to international territories, whilst maintaining strong communication with the Senior International Designer
  • Providing clear, effective & timely communication of design direction and changes
  • Identifying exceptions, proposing and implementing design solutions as part of managing each store project - consulting with internal teams/external consultants on all projects
  • Producing detailed commercial plans and design briefs for costing & building purposes
  • Designing and delivering creative and unique store designs for each coffee house under a recognisable brand look & feel that is culturally sensitive to geography, community and people
  • Being the industry expert on Store design to international markets, with the ability to demonstrate/share trend & competitor knowledge of design developments
  • Managing on-going compliance with applicable regulations, company standards & specifications to avoid any potential impact on timelines & budget whilst ensuring all associated administration is legally compliant & up to date
  • Be a Caffè Nero host & Brand champion to colleagues, international partners & external suppliers at all times

About the successful candidate:

  • Based in the UK, the postholder will be in our international territories approximately 50% of their working time. Typically, international travel will encompass up to 3 consecutive days each week
  • Design experience in retail/hospitality with exposure to a growing brand is key
  • A portfolio that includes design, look & feel, execution and completion of projects
  • Strong knowledge of Vectorworks/AutoCad/Sketch Up and Adobe CS as part of the design process
  • Evolved creative design skills that are both on brand & commercially viable
  • Budget management experience
  • Comfortable working at pace and with changing multiple priorities
  • Excellent relationship management (internally and externally), with a flexible and collaborative style
  • Flexible & responsive communication style across all mediums (written, visual & verbal)
  • A working style that thrives on being independent, managing own time whilst being able to contribute ideas & make improvements
  • Well organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Is both a team player & self-sufficient working with initiative
  • Confident and grounded
  • Have a great understanding of people, place & culture
