Job description

Job Purpose
To assist in the administration and preparation of materials for the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice (“Diploma”) session 2023/24 and to provide support to the Diploma team within the specified timescale.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To draw on own initiative and judgement in assisting Senior Tutors with the update of course materials and assessments.
2. To take responsibility for proofreading Diploma course materials and for updating and uploading materials on Moodle.
3. To liaise with the Diploma team and take responsibility for creating and maintaining an active social media presence on behalf of the Diploma.
4. Assist the Diploma team with organising events such as Introduction to Professional Practice Week and the Diploma Award Ceremony.
5. To take responsibility for determining short-term priorities and prioritising work within a predetermined plan or schedule to meet project deadlines and appropriate standards, and to assist the Diploma team in planning for the academic session 2023/24.
6. Any other tasks set by the Director or Deputy Director.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge /Qualifications
Essential
A1 SCQF Level 7 (Advanced Higher/ SVQ Level 3/ HNC) or equivalent
A2 Comprehensive and up to date knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland’s requirements for PEAT 1 / the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
A3 A good understanding of the effective operation of social media for the purposes of promotion and engagement
Desirable
B1 Good first degree in Law
B2 Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
Skills
Essential
C1 Excellent interpersonal skills, an open and friendly manner and the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy
C2 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
C3 Excellent attention to detail
C4 Good IT skills including a good grasp of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Moodle2
C5 Well-developed analytical and problem solving capability, and proven planning, organising and prioritising
C6 Highly developed research skills
C7 An ability to maintain accurate records relating to project data and project progress
C8 Familiarity with use of social media e.g. Twitter, Forums and blog-writing
C9 Ability to work under pressure and meet demanding deadlines
C10 Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material with discretion.
Experience
Essential
E1 Evidence of progression and development gained through relevant work experience. Work experience could include part-time or full-time work, internships and work placements, and extra-curricular activities such as volunteering and formal clubs and society roles.
E2 Proven track record managing and planning own day-to-day projects and tasks according to clear verbal and written instructions and guidelines from internship supervisor and within reasonable time constraints.
E3 Proven track record of involvement in the creation of written material and/or proofreading.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 5, £24,715 - £28,929 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 1 year.
