Real Estate (RE) manages the Group's Real Estate portfolio, Shell Business Operations and Corporate Travel programme. Within RE, the Strategy and Portfolio team works with the Businesses to develop the Real Estate strategies necessary to deliver an infrastructure and portfolio that maximises value for Shell. We are also responsible for shaping and enhancing the workplace experience by enabling delivery of targeted employee-centric investments. This contributes to individual and organisational performance and productivity.

The RE Strategy and Portfolio team have the unique task to map the future strategy for Shell’s footprint and workplace from beginning to end, in support of Shell’s role in the energy transition. We do that in close cooperation with Shell’s most senior leaders in order to establish maximum business value and in alignment with their long-term business goals.

What’s the role?

The RE Global Employee Insight Manager delivers analytics and strategic insights, conducts market research and benchmarking initiatives to support RE’s strategy and create experiences based on employees’ current and future needs to enable organizational growth.

The RE Global Employee Insight Manager should have highly developed strategic, critical, and analytical thinking capabilities, develop statistical analysis, identify key insights and future trends based on external and internal research, and understand how to communicate effectively at differing levels of the organization and across cultural boundaries.

The position includes providing guidance to others to implement and apply benchmarking research and operational excellence best practices to solve problems and develop those working towards these goals. This includes focus on creating inspiring insights strategy of experiences that encourage employees in all facets within the company to be motivated and productive.

The role will focus on:

  • Conducting internal and external competitive benchmarking to compare our performance within RE domains and with similar companies in terms of size and complexity. Evaluating our current position and performance, analyzing data, identifying and track emerging trends and insights, making predictions, preparing outlooks and providing strategic choices and solutions through structured and unstructured benchmarking tools
  • Carrying out thorough data analysis by using commonly accepted statistical methods such as frequency distribution and summary statistics (averages, median, max, min, and percentiles).
  • Developing and contributing to the strategic insights that promote data-informed decision-making identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement.
  • Translating the data into presentations by producing reporting formats for data analysis (including tables and graphs) to inform i.e. senior leadership engagements (EVP level) and Business Performance reviews.
  • Developing a clear narrative to interpret analysis in a meaningful and understandable way to audiences with varied technical depth and diverse professional roles.

Specifically, this role will be accountable for:

  • Conducting primary and secondary in-depth market research to truly understand employee needs, track emerging trends in the workplace environment in this fast-changing world. This includes regular interviews and consultations with internal and external stakeholders beyond extensive research on all available media to generate insight reporting on a quarterly basis.
  • Assessing and analysing the insights against Shell’s values and cultures, and developing strategic and actionable recommendations to strengthen business performance in the areas of i.e. facilities operations, capital spending, portfolio and experience.
  • Gathering employee insights by conducting and analysing workplace surveys (i.e. SPS covering 80000+ employees over 340+ locations, DEX covering around 10000 employees over 100 locations), and driving feedback mechanism and tools on various programs of RE (i.e. Voice of our Colleagues to be deployed at 100+ sites).
  • Gathering and analyzing data from a variety of sources to identify patterns and trends related to workplace utilisation, employee satisfaction, and performance:
  • Creating ways to measure and assess Employee Experience and ensure linkage to the Business Performance Dashboard to use this as a source of inspiration to establish best practices across the RE portfolio and to drive employee engagement.
  • Strengthening relationships with external partners to gather external insights on emerging workplace trends effectively.
  • Working with RE Operational Excellence (RE OE) to develop insights and reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Acting as a trusted partner by sharing insights and best practices across the organization at differing levels of the organization.
  • Staying up-to-date on industry trends and best practices related to workplace experience. Conducting research on emerging trends and technologies, attending industry conferences, and engaging with industry thought leaders to stay abreast of the latest developments in workplace experience.

This role requires working across organisational and time zones, regularly building new relationships, and exploring new solutions in a fast-changing – sometimes ambiguous – environment and passionate in discovering new ideas and motivated to translating these to reality. Most importantly, possessing excellent analytical and people skills that will make the difference.

What we are ideally looking for are the following:

  • Solid technical and analytical skills with the ability to design surveys and develop strategic insights.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to help track down critical information and detect important trends.
  • Highly developed communications skills and ability to write and speak effectively to audiences with varied technical depth and diverse professional roles.
  • Outstanding digital presentation skills and able to translate concepts into compelling visual materials.
  • Quantitative skills with the ability to make empirical enquiries through mathematical and statistical data gathering and analysis.
  • Knowledge of basic business processes and how to use quantitative information to gain insights into them.
  • Proficiency in statistical software programs and tools.
  • Exceptional ability to interpret data and analyze trends, as well as preparing industry outlooks.

We also hope you possess the following competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills in English.
  • Strong relationship & stakeholder management skills including experience in developing a value driven relationships with colleagues including senior leaders at EVP, VP and GM level.
  • Comfortable working with, and leading through uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity, and incomplete information; a strong learner mindset.
  • Good understanding of Shell’s foundations, projects, and assurance framework (ORS).

Given the nature of the role, a demonstrable level of experience and competence gained from the Real Estate sector would be desirable. Furthermore, you will have:

  • A Bachelors or Master’s degree, in a relevant area preferably related to Research Studies or Statistical Research or Economics or Mathematics
  • An understanding of Real Estate Industry, stakeholder landscape would be an advantage.
  • Substantial work experience in complex corporate environments with exposure to change, engagement and business readiness planning in market research and insights, statistical analysis business, change, Real Estate related role.
  • Preferably relevant experience in working in Strategy or Management Consulting.

The preferred location for this role will be The Hague or London. For the right candidate, however, consideration will be given to other business hub locations.
