About the Role
Base Location: Glasgow preferably

Working Pattern: Full Time Fixed Term Contract – 18 months
What is the role?
We have an exciting 18 months Fixed Term Contract opportunity for an Insurance Manager. The SSE insurance team has a key part to play in ensuring SSE achieves its targets as we move towards Net Zero. As well as managing and providing insurance input relating to a proportion of the Group’s operational assets and liabilities, the team takes a lead on insurance matters for significant and high-profile construction projects, for the business, both in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
The drive to deliver on SSE’s Net Zero aspirations by 2050 will involve a sea change in the means by which electricity is generated, stored and transported. SSE Thermal and SSE Enterprise have a significant role in delivering on these Net Zero aspirations.
SSE Thermal will contribute by developing ground-breaking carbon capture and storage projects, progressing plans for what could be the world’s first hydrogen storage facility and exploring other exciting first of a kind options as we decarbonise.
SSE Enterprise will contribute by progressing Battery Storage, Solar, Combined Heat and Power as well as Private Networks developments.
The Insurance Manager role will involve input from the concept stage, through construction, to handover and on to operations of projects arising from these business areas. You will also play a role in the ongoing administration of the Group’s operational insurance programme with a focus on information gathering around renewal.
As an Insurance Manager within SSE main areas of responsibility will consist of :
- Managing the placement and administration of insurance contracts on behalf of SSE PLC and Joint Venture entities;
- Support a wide range of projects being developed within the Thermal and Enterprise areas of SSE from an insurance advisory, placement and administrative perspective;
- Reviewing, developing and updating contracts relating to construction and operations throughout SSE;
- Providing guidance to stakeholders at all levels within SSE as to the role that insurance does and can play to transfer risk faced by the Group and Join Venture entities.
What do you need?
To be considered for this role, we’d love you to have:
- Experience in the placement of insurance coverages with an insurance broker, insurer or commercial entity. Previous experience of placing Contract Works insurance coverage – especially on an Owner Controlled basis would be advantageous;
- Experience in reviewing and commenting on contractual matters as they relate to the placement of insurance coverage;
- A level of confidence and focus, with interpersonal and communication skills that will allow for effective engagement with colleagues and stakeholders, at all management levels;
- The ability to manage time effectively and to prioritise workload to ensure delivery of projects according to set deadlines; and
- Excellent numeracy skills with experience of Microsoft Office suite of products
A qualification in a relevant discipline such as Insurance, Loss Adjusting or Risk Management would be seen as a positive.
