Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! The Successful Candidate Will:
1. Researches and plan activities in inclusion programs to meet the needs of participants and promote engagement and skill development. Prepare weekly program plans and organize program supplies.
2. Responsible for leading programming, adapting activities and making modifications to program plans as needed.
3. Main point of contact for parents/guardians to provide updates on progress and areas of concern. Phone calls home will be completed prior to the start of each session to discuss participant needs and planned activities.
4. Take attendance at the start of each class, ensure safe dismissal at the end of each class, and maintain confidential records, including emergency contact information, individual needs, behaviour protocols, and health concerns of participants.
5. Collaborate with other program staff to discuss program plans, ideas, areas of concern, and participant information (i.e. behaviours, interests, triggers, strategies, etc.), as well as updating Inclusion Facilitators on participant requirements.
6. Coaching staff and guiding them through managing behavioural challenges. Occasionally may involve physical contact with participants (i.e. guidance).
7. Communicate with supervisors regarding staff hours, staffing changes and program recommendations.
8. Work with facility staff to ensure room is set up properly, and complete hazards checks before participants arrive.
9. Respond to emergency situations including performing minor first aid and/or arranging for medical assistance.

Training and demonstrated experience at a level related to the specified program being instructed.
Current certification(s) or workshop(s) from the stated teaching field, as required.
Excellent customer service, communication, leadership, and organizational skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
Current High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification required.
Behaviour Management Systems, Safe Management or Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification is required
Availability/flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
