Job Summary

The Instructional Designer/Multimedia Specialist is responsible for enhancing Rensselaer at Work’s course content by developing multimedia assets, graphics, interactive activities, and other digital content. As part of the Instructional Design (ID) team, this individual plays an active role in enhancing existing courses, building content for new courses, and elevating Rensselaer at Work’s presence in the digital learning space. In collaboration with the Director of Instructional Design, the Instructional Designer/Multimedia Specialist develops and maintains a brand-aligned aesthetic for course-related presentations, videos, interactive activities, documents, files, and other assets. This individual plays a pivotal role in creating the ID team’s “Multimedia Production” workstream. This position also supports faculty and internal colleagues as needed to prepare, update, and launch courses on a semesterly basis, as well as to provide design support for digital marketing efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with a focus in instructional technology, instructional design, multimedia production, graphic design or related field.
  • Three years of experience working in fields related to instructional design, multimedia production, or digital learning.
  • Instructional experience at the college or professional level (courses, training workshops, webinars, etc.).
  • Experience with developing digital learning assets, graphics, videos, or interactive activities for adult learners in professional settings.
  • Experience with storyboarding and scripting for multimedia projects.

A relevant combinations of education, directly related experience and training may be substituted for a degree.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced media production skills, including editing, recording professional audio and video, working with raw audio and video files, exporting high-quality graphic and video files, etc.
  • Expert visual design skills and ability to produce professional, modern, brand-aligned visuals
  • Experience with storyboarding and scripting for multimedia projects
  • Ability to translate ideas from SMEs into relevant, professional content and multimedia assets
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and meet deadlines while working in a remote setting
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment and balancing priorities
  • Ability to apply creative thinking to solve problems on time and within budget
  • Knowledge of research-based learning theories, best practices for designing digital learning assets, and modern industry standards related to digital design
  • Attention to detail at the granular level, while maintaining the ability to see the “bigger picture”
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude paired with a willingness to learn new tools and methods
  • Advanced experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, Captivate, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.).
  • Proficiency with using and editing content within an LMS (Canvas experience preferred)
  • General proficiency with technology and commonly used higher education programs, like Microsoft Office and Zoom
  • Familiarity with video hosting platforms like Mediasite
  • Familiarity with web hosting capabilities for HTML5 activities
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Suite (Confluence and Jira)
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
