Are you a Linux Engineer who can build, configure and troubleshoot Linux Servers?
This role is hybrid working, it is 3 days on site per week, 2 days working from home. You must be commutable to one of our sites.
The role of the Linux Engineer is to manage the day to day function and overall lifecycle of the clients Unix/Linux server estate. This role will involve supporting end-to-end provisioning, operation, monitoring, managing and decommissioning of physical and virtual servers or server farms, with different OS(Linux/Unix predominantly, but Windows as a secondary), along the whole lifecycle.
It will also involve regular patching, updates and ensuring compliance standards are maintained and producing report outputs from management tools to verify compliance. In the future state, there may be scope for an increase in automation in management, deployment and operations of servers, PoCs for cloud-like functionality and edge datacentres and looking into providing a solution for in-memory computing.
What you will be doing:
- Maintains records of current server configurations
- Ensure physical servers remain in support with hardware manufacturers updates
- Proactively monitor server use and performance
- Maintenance and production of technical documentation to facilitate knowledge share and skills development
- Participate in change delivery and capacity planning
- Lock-down and secure the administration of servers
- Disaster Recovery Planning
- Install and assemble server hardware
- Install and configure OS (physical & virtual) including updates and patches
What you will bring:
- Linux/Unix administration skills
- Experience with Anti-Virus within Linux OS
- Virtualisation experience within a VMware environment
- Understanding of Linux Operating Systems RedHat Enterprise and CentOS
It would be great if you had:
- Red Hat Satellite & Ansible
- Experience involving multiple Operating System vendors
- Knowledge of HPE Storage Technologies (FC/iSCSI/NFS protocols)
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN Technologies
- Experience in increasing automation in management, deployment, and operations of servers, providing PoCs for cloud-like functionality and edge datacentres and looking into providing a solution for in-memory computing
- RHCSA certification on RedHat
- Working knowledge of Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira
- Knowledge of Monitoring tools such as Check MK/Nagios/Splunk
- Experience in Ansible Tower
