Alongside Retsch, MRB offer solutions in particle characterization for shape, size, surface and porosity of samples. UK Servicing and technical support takes place at our purpose-built facility on the outskirts of Sheffield, operating out of the UK manufacturing site for another Verder Scientific company, Carbolite Gero Ltd.
A vacancy exists for a: - In-House Service Technician
Due to the continued success and growth of the business, we are delighted to be recruiting for an in-house service Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is in the early stages of their career, has recently finished a relatable Electronics or Mechanical qualification or who is looking for an apprenticeship.
After a year’s service, the Company may also consider enrolling the successful applicant on to a work-based apprenticeship scheme where they will study whilst working alongside our Service Manager. As the applicant takes on more responsibilities they may progress to a more senior role, with the option to also work in performing on-site customer repairs and calibrations.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a desire to learn and develop with a natural passion for Electromechanical systems. Following training, duties will include fault finding, calibration and repair of RETSCH – Laboratory Mills, Crushers and Sieve Shakers equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead administrator / first point of customer contact.
- Liaising with Clients, the Service Manager and Office Administrators to ensure customers are contacted and quoted in a timely and friendly manner. (Database management).
- Fault finding and diagnostics (faults fixed + tested functional every time).
- Repair of mechanical systems (hand tools, knowledge of bearing removal/installation tools).
- Replacing circuit boards (plug and play).
- Writing service reports PDF or Word for customers understanding.
- Stock taking and management (accurate reporting of parts usage, using in house stock database).
Key skills and qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have recently finished a relatable Electronics or Mechanical Technician level qualification with excellent computer/administration skills.
- A desire to see matters through to a successful conclusion, realising customer satisfaction.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Programs.
Desirable:
- Dexterity – Correct use of manual handling equipment and tools down to fitting of small electronic components and connectors.
- Logical thinking skills – Ability to read service manuals, Training videos and fault codes to identify faults.
- Communication skills - Must be able to discuss fault information and follow verbal repair instructions where required.
- Electronics low voltage and or Mains voltage.
- Detail oriented - A desire to see matters through to a successful conclusion, realising customer satisfaction.
- Ability to work autonomously – After initial training the Service Manager will provide technical support via phone or email when out of the office or on-site visits.
- Mechanical Fault finding - Ability to identify loose or binding components by sight, sound or touch.

- 37.50 Hours per week, Mon-Thurs 8.00 – 4.45 pm, Friday 8.00 -12.30 pm (Early finish on a Friday).

Due to the location, you will ideally need your own transport, however, we are situated next to Hope train station and on a regular bus route from and to Sheffield.
