Hydro-Meteorological Analyst (Catastrophe Analyst) – Guy Carpenter - London
The role
Guy Carpenter, a leading international reinsurance broker, is looking for a Hydro-Meteorological Analyst (Catastrophe Analyst) to join its London office. This position will be part of the Global Peril Advisory team of natural catastrophe experts performing catastrophe model evaluation and climate change physical risk modelling in relation to hydro-meteorological perils. We are looking for analytical thinkers with excitement, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills to advance the understanding of catastrophic loss events.
This role would suit someone with a BSc with MSc or PhD in a related discipline such as physical geography or a natural science and up to 2 years direct or indirect experience in natural catastrophes, insurance or reinsurance. A background in hydrology/flood or a strong knowledge of atmospheric science would be ideal.

We will rely on you to:
- Focus on flood related risks, and/or atmospheric risks such as windstorm, typhoon and convective storm.
- Apply scientific reference data to compare against catastrophe model output
- Assess the impacts of climate change on catastrophic loss events
- Collect datasets and perform analysis in support of improving our understanding of natural catastrophes
- Build networks with the scientific and insurance community
- Communicate key results to colleagues, clients and the insurance markets, by presenting and writing reports, emails and other communications
- Liaise with stakeholders including cat modellers, brokers, clients, and others
- Assisting with analysis, data and commentary for event response
What you need to have:
- BSc with MSc or PhD and advantage in a related discipline such as physical geography or a natural science. Ideally with a background in hydrology/flood or a strong knowledge of atmospheric science.
- Up to 2 years direct or indirect experience in natural catastrophes, insurance or reinsurance
- Excellent written English and communication skills
- Strong organisational ability

- Ability to manage stakeholder relationships
