Who We Are

Owned by the Italian Frandino Group and originally founded in the 1950s as a fruit distillery, Sedamyl has grown to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wheat derivatives such as starches, sweeteners, proteins and alcohol for major food and industrial sectors worldwide. In 2012 the group expanded its international presence by opening a plant in Selby, UK.

What We Do

Sedamyl UK, uses Yorkshire-grown wheat in its production, which is purchased from a network in excess of 1,000 local farmers, so providing a valuable and sustained revenue stream. The announcement in 2021 to invest a further £80m in expanding both its distilling and liquid sweetener production, significantly boosts an already growing workforce to around 150 employees, creating in excess of 75 new jobs for the area.

What we are looking for

We are looking to appoint a HSE Advisor from an Industrial or Manufacturing background, to be responsible for the maintenance and development of processes to support our SHSE department in continuing to improve and drive forward the Health, Safety and Environmental agenda on site. You will be responsible for co-ordinating, supporting and advising the business on all aspects of HSE. You will be expected to develop and implement processes and polices, monitor standards, influence HSE culture, effectively communicate with all departments to ensure all responsibilities associated with HSE within the business are adhered to.

Responsibilities include:

· Electrical and Mechanical safety within a complex organisation which utilises some of the most advanced research and production facilities.

· Provide a focal point for advice, information and expertise on best practice and electrical and mechanical safety engineering knowledge.

· Experience in permits to work, safety controls and planning.

· Assisting with the development, implementation of effective policies and procedures, including advising and implementing Standard Operation Procedures

· Experience in developing and implementing Risk Management and Assessment of activities and tasks and Point of Work Risk Assessments. Assisting with the review, maintenance and the production of risk assessments, method statements, permits to work and COSHH assessments.

· Experience in operating a complex plant.

· Ensuring legislation compliance

· Assist with toolbox talks and conducting inductions.

· Assisting with investigations into accidents and investigations to address root cause and prevent reoccurrence.

· Delivering site assurance activities, developing front line HSE inspections program, conducting internal audits, and assisting with external audits to demonstrate compliance with ISO Standards and the HSE management system.

· Create an environment which encourages effective HSE engagement of all employees, including near miss reporting and generating ideas for improvements.

· Maintaining a contractor/suppliers management system in order to effectively manage risk associated with their undertakings.

· Ensuring all required inspections are undertaken and maintained including fire risk assessment, Legionella and all other examinations required on site

· Working in collaboration with contractors and project team during construction phase of plant expansion

· Undertake other duties as reasonable requested.

Skills and Knowledge

· Proven experience hands on experience in an HSE role

· NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (or working towards)

· Experienced Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with qualifications (desired)

· Working knowledge of HSE legislation

· Experience in undertaking and being audited to ISO standards.

· Excellent communications skills and ability to work well with a wide range of range of people.

· Drive and enthusiasm with the ability to promote a positive HSE culture.

· Good organisational skills and attention to detail

· COMAH trained preferred.

· Previous experience of construction practices

· Good IT skills competent with Microsoft software
