The UCPath Center is the University of California's shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, five medical centers, three national labs and more. The staff at the UCPath Center work in a variety of areas including business operations, customer service, quality management, technology, training, human resources and communications. Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will report to the UCPath Center Accounting Supervisor. The incumbent uses accounting concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of accounting practices and organizational policies and procedures to resolve complex assignments where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors and multiple sources. The Staff Accountant exercises judgment within defined accounting procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. The Accountant receives general instructions on complex new assignments and initiatives. The incumbent demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. As a part of a new shared service center, the Accountant may initially assist in building out a broader scope of needed financial services.
Key Responsibilities

Interpret, streamline and format large amounts of financial data in an organized manner. Provides detailed analysis of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions.

Prepares journal entries, maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, including, but not limited to payroll liability accounts.

Ensure compliance, perform risk assessment and conduct internal audits, as well as support the system-wide internal auditors and external auditors. Create, review and document internal controls as they pertain to shared service center transactions.

Use various general accounting systems within the UCPath Center for daily accounting responsibilities and research.

Perform account analysis, prepare account reconciliations, statements and reports. Plans, coordinates and resolves accounting matters with other Accounting department members, departments, locations and divisions.

Provides analysis on various accounting issues and prepares complex accounting projects.

Prepare queries and financial reports for various departments and answer questions related to the general ledger.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at the UCPath Center in Riverside and remote in California.

- A minimum of three (3) years related experience and/or training.

- Has ability to independently gather, organize, and perform accounting related analysis with minimal supervision and guidance.
- Has thorough knowledge of accounting functions and GAAP and GASB, financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Excellent people skills, with ability to effectively interact, collaborate, and influence across all levels of an organization.
- Able to streamline and automate accounting processes and procedures and efficiently identify, research and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to provide high quality work utilizing highly developed and effective communication (written and verbal), project management, time management, and collaboration skills. Ability to prioritize, streamline and accomplish assigned projects.
- Proficient with MS Office applications, such as Word and PowerPoint (with intermediate skill level in Excel) and related industry software.
- Ability to provide excellent service with integrity and handle confidential matters and material
- Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment and have the flexibility to handle multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities.
- Ability to accomplish assigned projects without compromising the integrity of the UCPath Center and/or University of California policies and procedures.
