The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Employee Relations (ER) Team at Medway Council in the role of HR Consultant supporting, advising, coaching and engaging our managers to deliver their service plans on employee relations and people matters. You will be joining us at an exciting time where we continue to grow and establish our ER team. We very much want your opinions and experience to form this growth.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an experienced HR professional who is currently operating at either a HR Consultant or HR Advisor capacity, or an individual who is looking for their next HR role as part of their career progression. What is important to us is that you are confident in your knowledge and hold the ability to provide advice to all levels within the Council. This is a transactional and reactive role and so you must be organised and a proficient communicator.
You will be confident in providing advice and guidance to managers, senior managers and colleagues and be able to build and maintain positive relationships with individuals at all levels of the organisation, including Trade Union representatives to deliver business focused solutions.
You will be Level 5 CIPD qualified or equivalent and have experience of working within HR, with up-to-date knowledge of employment law and best practice and have high professional standards and be able to manage a range of cases.

You will work three days per week, of which must incorporate with either a Thursday or Friday working day (one of), so that we have adequate handover with one of our HR Consultants.
What will you be doing?
You will provide expert advice to managers on grievance, disciplinary, performance and capability matters, some of which may be complex, or similar situations affecting employee terms and conditions. Process job evaluations as and when required. Provide support on management investigations, hearings and appeal panels procedures, as well as being part of the panel when required.
Travel will be required from time to time to various sites across our organisation.

Our Team
Sitting in the ER Team, you will report into a Senior HR Consultant under the leadership of our Head of HR and Payroll. You will join an established ER Team of four HR Consultants supporting our corporate business as well as have the opportunity to work alongside our HR Consultant for Schools, together with our fantastic HR Support Team.
The ER Team sit within our wider HR and Organisational Culture Team. Working collaboratively with each other, you will have a constant stream of support and vast experience to tap into.
