About us
Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students. The Division of Biosciences has an excellent opportunity for the right candidate who is looking to develop their HR career within a university setting. About the role
This is a busy role delivering a high quality front line service within an academic area, ensuring that Faculty and UCL policies and procedures are followed and advising staff on these. As the role requires interaction with many people across UCL at all levels a professional attitude, willingness to help and the ability to remain tactful and assertive are required. The HR Administrator supports the Staffing Team Manager and Deputy HR Manager in the delivery of an effective, efficient and proactive HR function for the Division. They will provide administrative assistance with recruitment, contractual changes that affect staff and their payroll, and UCL processes such as induction, probation and appraisal. The successful candidate will need to be adaptable, quick to assimilate information and establish their own support networks across UCL. An excellent eye for details, organisational skills, the ability to communicate effectively, good humour and patience are a must.
The post is available as a secondment from now until 15 March 2024 in the first instance. Please ensure you have discussed the secondment with your line manager before applying.
About you
The successful candidate will be educated to A level or equivalent standard and have a working knowledge of Equality and Immigration legislation and how it impacts on HR administration and recruitment activities. The post holder will have the ability to be effectively manage a high and varied workload and deliver agreed outcomes, prioritising effectively when faced with competing demands. The post holder will have experience of using HR systems and have a good working knowledge of UCL HR policies, UK employment law and UK migration and right to work process, with the ability to simplify complex areas of HR such as policies, terms and conditions, systems instructions etc. so that they are understood by those unfamiliar with them. Experience of using Talent Link whilst desirable will be highly regarded.
