Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent HGV Driver/Loader to join our Surrey Council account in Surrey Heath Borough Council.
The salary for this position is £15.75 per hour.
Amey have been working in partnership with Surrey Council since 2017. Surrey is known for its natural beauty and with it covering a quarter of the UK, our aim is to help it stay that way by providing a range of waste, recycling collections and street cleansing services to circa 400,000 residents across four boroughs: Elmbridge, Woking, Surrey Heath and Mole Valley. By working in partnership, we’re able to deliver an improved reliable service, whilst making savings.
As a Driver/Loader your main role is to drive/operate refuse collection truck and load bins in public areas in various weather conditions. Please also bear in mind that you will be required to work in all weathers, which can be a challenge.
The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, your permanent shift rota is from Monday till Friday starting at 6:00am and finishing at 3:00pm.

You will be responsible for:
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections followed by completion of relevant paperwork which needs to be passed to your supervisor
- Ensure the satisfactory completion of work in accordance with instructions and compliant with Amey’s Health and Safety At Work requirements
- Ensure all rounds/routes are completed efficiently and on time
- Operate the compaction controls of the company vehicle when required
- Operate the ‘in cab device’
- Work as a member of the team
- Carry out and assist with loading and manual handling responsibilities when required
- Ensure customers premises/properties are left in a tidy condition

We want to hear from you if you have:
- Driving experience in similar role
- Class 2 Licence
- CPC Qualification
- Valid digital tacho card
- Maintaining level of service in all weather conditions
- Knowledge and compliance with Tachograph legislation, DVSA Rules and Regulations
- Flexibility to work on varied routes as and when required to meet the needs of the business
- Previous experience in customer services and customer care skills but not essential
Ideal candidate will hold valid driving license class C with CPC qualifications and valid digital tacho card, with extensive experience as HGV driver within the Waste Industry.
In addition to this, it would be desirable if you would have NRSWA accreditation, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed. Good knowledge of the Surrey area is an advantage, but also is not an essential skill.
