We are seeking highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic Band 3 HCSW to join our Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. As a HCSW in stroke, we will assist with training in vital signs and neurological observations, recording ECGs, bladder scanning, cannulation, venepuncture and many more clinical skills, supported by our dedicated practice educator.
We are looking for individuals who are full time and flexible (including evenings, shift work and nights) as you may be moved to a different ward/ department at any time, during your working week. You will be expected to integrate quickly with an established team of staff to deliver quality care. We will offer you a structured Induction programme during which you will learn more about the Trust and your role. You will be required to complete the National Care Certificate in the first 3 months of employment.
We are one of eight specialist centers in London which delivers world class stroke Hyper Acute services, overseeing the treatment of approximately 2500 people a year.
We operate the first and only Emergency Stroke Unit made up of 6 cubicles, similar to an A&E/Resus setting. Patients accepted to the unit are from all over North Central London.
The Stroke Service is also made up of 26 beds on David Ferrier Ward: 18 patients on the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit side and 8 beds on the Acute Stroke Unit side. HASU/ASU wards consist of 4 bays and 3 side rooms. The bays contain high dependency beds with cardiac monitoring available for Hyper Acute Stroke patients.
Lastly, we operate a 7-day TIA clinic service, seeing patients within 24-hours of a TIA for specialist assessment and treatment.
