The Opportunity
We're currently looking for a graduate to join our busy and growing Sustainable Transport & Active Travel team in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.
The team support clients with encouraging, and making it safer, to walk, cycle and wheel to match the aspirations of national, regional and local transport policy and in accordance with relevant design standards and best practice.Our team has a growing workload in the context of the climate emergency and the push for carbon net zero. We deliver projects that consider the needs of communities and we shape our designs inclusively to create people-friendly built environments. You will work closely with local communities to understand their needs and deliver ambitious infrastructure projects. (including through the RIBA Work stages / Sustrans Places for Everyone process)
While existing skills are beneficial, our main requirement is a genuine enthusiasm and personal interest inwalking, cycling and the environment. You will learn new skills and capabilities which Stantec will be committed to investing in and supporting you with as part of a growing team.
You will provid ing technical support to projects, including:
- Active travel route / network audits
- Infrastructure design in accordance with RIBA / Places for Everyone
- Cycle audits
- Option identification and appraisal
- Feasibility studies
- Travel Planning and behaviour change
- Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) and Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA)
- Data specification, collection & analysis
- Local junction modelling / traffic signals
- Active travel funding applications.
About You
You have a desire to learn and a passion for Transport Planning. You are excited to join Stantec and design the next great infrastructure project.
- You will have achieved or be on target to achieve an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Geography or equivalent subject.
- Relevant work experience gained through summer placements and internships is beneficial but not essential.
- Demonstrating an interest in understanding the relevant technical standards and policies associated with active travel.
- You must be eligible to live and work in the UK at the time you start employment.

Land Aid
Stantec has partnered with property sector charity LandAid as one of its corporate partners to join its mission to end youth homelessness.
In 2019/20, an estimated 120,000 young people asked for help from their local council because they were homeless or at risk of homelessness.
It’s a problem that LandAid are here to help tackle.
As the Property Industry Charity, LandAid unite over 200 organisations from across the sector, working together to bring an end to youth homelessness.
As a Charitable Trust, they distribute funding to frontline charities supporting the young and homeless – and primarily fund capital projects, such as renovating homes and building bedspaces.
We have seen the incredible impact that can happen when the industry unites and so Stantec are proud to be working alongside LandAid this year.
