The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant specialising in Engaged Research and Impact, to support the work of Dr Kelly Thornber. This post is available from 1st September 2023 until 31st July 2024. The successful applicant will provide research and engagement support for the Pharma Pollution Hub, an ambitious new initiative that is applying a systems and stakeholder engagement approach to address the issue of pharmaceutical pollution.
The post-holder will work alongside the Co-Directors of the Hub to support the development of a high-level report with recommendations for action to reduce the environmental impact of medicines used in human healthcare. They will work in collaboration with the Pharma Pollution Consortium, whose membership includes stakeholder groups from the pharmaceutical, healthcare and environmental sectors, including those within government, industry, the civil sector and academia. This will involve organising/running engagement workshops and other events, collecting survey data, literature searching, blog and report preparation, and the maintenance of our website and social media platforms.
The Pharma Pollution Hub is a non-profit initiative embedded within the University of Exeter whose members lie across a range of disciplines. It is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of medicines used in human healthcare through a holistic approach that brings together the pharmaceutical, healthcare and environmental sectors, recognising that effective solutions will require collective and coordinated action. It provides an independent platform for open and inclusive dialogue between stakeholders from across government, industry and civil society, to facilitate the development of pragmatic strategies to enhance healthcare sustainability and environmental protection.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be particularly adept at summarising and communicating academic research in an accessible manner, organising and running online workshops and events, and preparing reports and other documents (including blogs) aimed at a wide audience.
