Local Unit & Position Description:
Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it’s helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

Our highly respected Risk Advisory department in the UK and Ireland, is primarily responsible for the delivery of consultancy-based safety, integrity and risk management services. We provide high quality advisory services to the onshore and offshore oil and gas sector (upstream, midstream and downstream) and increasingly, provide similar services to the evolving hydrogen and renewables sectors.

Within this, our specialist integrity teams deliver a range of critical consultancy services such as failure investigation, fitness for service assessment, stress analysis, life extension, risk based inspection, asset health assessment, vibration assessment and risk management, to operators in support of their ongoing operations.

We are also leading our industry in advising clients how to repurpose their existing assets for the transportation of hydrogen or carbon dioxide to support the energy transition and deliver the innovative solutions that our industry and planet needs. This multi-disciplinary approach, with materials and integrity engineers working alongside our other discipline experts drawn from safety, flow assurance and rotating equipment, is what makes what we do, unique.

Our Opportunity:

As a Graduate Materials and Corrosion Engineer, you’ll join a growing team of big thinkers who love investigating and finding innovative solutions to our industry’s most challenging problems. You’ll be given real responsibility from day one, collaborating with forward-thinking customers and technical experts across our business, helping deliver career and industry-defining projects. You will be given the time to build your network, the resources to support your development, and the freedom to satisfy your curiosity and desire to learn.

Working in our materials laboratory in Loughborough (Leicestershire), you will:
  • Carry out forensic failure investigations for process plant, pipework and other energy industry assets, in our well-equipped materials laboratory.
  • Utilise forensic methods such as microscopy metallography and chemical analysis.
  • Learn how materials challenges are at the heart of efforts to repurpose energy industry infrastructure in the UK and around the world.
  • Work with senior colleagues to deliver world-class consultancy services in areas such as materials selection, corrosion risk assessment, cathodic protection and risk based inspection.
  • Actively engage with clients to understand their challenges as they seek to make the Energy industry safer and more sustainable, with a special focus on energy transition challenges.
  • Have the opportunity to work with other discipline teams across DNV to see how we are working together to solve some of the energy industry’s biggest problems.
You’ll be stretched but always supported, so don’t worry if the Energy industry or some of the terminology is unfamiliar to you, we’ll teach you all you need to know. Upon joining, you’ll receive a buddy to help you settle in, a mentor to enhance your technical knowledge, as well as ongoing on-the-job coaching and support from your colleagues.

Our structured Graduate Programme therefore, provides a fantastic start to your career with us, enhancing both your technical and professional skills and supporting your journey towards chartership and becoming an expert in your field.

Primarily based at our office in Loughborough (Leicestershire), you’ll also have opportunity to travel to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas (including, where needed, the potential for short assignments), so a flexibility and willingness to undertake this, is essential.
