General Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Government Affairs & Public Policy, CEED, the Senior Manager, Government Affairs & Public Policy, Distributor Markets will be supporting the development and management of Government Affairs & Public Policy initiatives across distributor markets in Eastern Europe, Balkans, the Middle East and Latin America in alignment with the International GAPP Department and the distributor markets team. Furthermore, the role will also interact with relevant external stakeholders across respective markets, including industry associations, in line with Vertex’s approved and agreed business strategy.
The successful candidate must work collaboratively with colleagues in other functions within the company including commercial, market access, medical, patient engagement, communications, regulatory, legal and compliance.
The candidate should have a strong background in Government Affairs & Public Policy in the bio/pharmaceutical industry, government or administration, including experience in corporate relations. The candidate should also have experience in the area of rare diseases and/or gene and cell therapies. Professional experience in Eastern Europe, Balkans, the Middle East or Latin America is desirable.
The successful candidate will be responsible for projecting the highest values and ethics consistent with Vertex corporate policies at all times.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Support developing Government Affairs and Public Policy activities for Vertex;

Represent and lead Vertex engagement in selected industry organisations and with key stakeholders;

Proactively monitor and analyse relevant pharmaceutical, healthcare and regulatory policy;

Develop comprehensive briefings to Senior Management on policy and legislative initiatives;

Exemplifying Vertex’s core values in fulfilling these job duties.
Knowledge and Skills:
-
Experience in Government Affairs & Public Policy in pharma/biopharma on either the agency or corporate side or within government or administration;

Advanced degree (MS/MA/MPH/MBA/JD);

Good political insight and skilled judgement on positioning of complex policy issues, as well as genuine interest in policymaking;

Good professional network within the policy and regulatory environment;
-
A strategic thinker with ability to formulate, develop and execute on agreed strategies; entrepreneurial spirit and ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems;

A high level of energy and passion towards patients, science and public health;

A desire to work in the corporate culture of a highly innovative company aimed at redefining health, and transforming lives with new medicines;

Demonstrated knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, the drug development process and regulatory requirements; of the healthcare system and key relevant policies;

Ability to maintain neutrality, diplomacy and complete confidentiality at all times;

Display solid ethics and fully comply with all regulatory, legal and industry codes of conduct for governmental affairs activities;

Good organizational skills, including the ability to use initiative, to prioritize workload, and work under pressure to achieve tight schedules and deadlines;

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills;

Ability and willingness to travel;

Fluency in English, written and spoken as well as an additional language – ideally a language from the represented markets
