Job description

Geotechnical Design Engineer (Engineer/Senior Grade)

Our Midlands Geo Division is having a strong year and is looking for competent geotechnical designers to add to the expertise already within the team.

Geotechnics is one of our core disciplines at Hydrock. It is where we came from (both the CEO and MD have a ‘Geo background’) and it accounts for a significant portion of our business today. The division has remained very busy throughout the pandemic and with a growing order book, it’s time to invest in additional geotechnical colleagues.

We are looking for a talented engineer and designer who will be stimulated by working on complex projects such as SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway (SLPEMG), a 700-acre development with planning consent for up to 6 million sq ft of logistics accommodation, designated a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and other flagship projects currently underway. You will be working on similar schemes when you join us as well as having the opportunity to work on smaller developments. Hydrock has a wide variety of projects from smaller residential sites to larger warehousing developments. We also develop optioneering systems and promote viable alternatives to the standard approaches which includes challenging brownfield sites.

What skills and attributes are we looking for?

  • An experienced Geotechnical Engineer, or Senior Geotechnical Engineer with substantial consultancy experience gained in the UK.
  • Significant geotechnical design experience including writing GDR and EWS (to CD622 and EC7).
  • BEng, BSc or higher qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering and Chartered Member of a relevant institution. Alternatively, a first degree in Geology with an Msc in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in the specification and design of geotechnical structures (foundations, earthworks, ground improvement, slopes, embankments, gravity structures, nails, anchors, embedded walls etc).
  • Experience in the design, supervision and verification of earthworks projects is highly desirable.
  • A working knowledge of GEO5 and VDisp would be advantageous.
  • Experienced in writing interpretive geotechnical reports.
  • Self-motivated team player with good people skills.
  • Integrity and credibility. People want to work with you (customers and colleagues).
  • Believes in our ethos.
