General Farm Worker Taunton, England
Job description
We are looking for a general farm worker to join the team on our free range poultry and arable farm. The family owned farm has a small amount of arable land and a large, modern, multi-tier egg laying unit. In addition to the arable and poultry, the farm grows Christmas trees, has a dog walking field and there is an on site self storage business. Your tasks will be varied across all areas of the business. The job will require someone who is practical, physically fit and happy to work alone and in our small team. The position would be for 35 hours per week, these hours could be flexible. Some weekend work will be required. The candidate would be required to live within 20 minutes of Staple Fitzpaine, near Taunton, Somerset.
Responsibilities and duties
· Topping grass in dog field and in areas of countryside stewardship
· Strimming, pruning and general weed control in the Christmas trees
· Spraying along fence lines and around newly planted trees
· Some tractor driving – including moving muck trailers, rolling and corn cart
· Maintenance and repairs to farm machinery and machinery in chicken shed.
· Packing eggs in the free range chicken shed
· Picking up eggs not laid in nest boxes and checking on bird health and welfare.
· Monitoring of bird performance and dealing with any issues and breakdowns in the chicken shed in a calm and methodical manner
· You will report directly to the farm owner who also works full time off farm
Qualifications and skills
· Basic tractor driving skills essential
· Forklift ticket would be an advantage
· PA1 & PA6a would be an advantage
· Chainsaw qualifications would be an advantage
· First aid at work qualification would be an advantage
· Physically fit
· Mechanically minded
· Hard working and reliable
· Responsible
· Team player but happy lone working
· Previous experience of working with poultry not necessary
Salary and benefits
· £11-14 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
· Flexible hours
· Potential to gain first aid, forklift, knapsack sprayer and chainsaw qualifications
