Gladwells Rutland: Gallery & Sales Assistant
Gladwell & Patterson is a well established art dealership specialising in Impressionist and Modern Art and Traditional Contemporary paintings and sculptures, with a proud history dating back to 1746. We are a small, family run business with galleries in Knightsbridge London, Rutland and a pop-up gallery in West Deeping. We are looking for someone to support the gallery manager in the everyday operational running of the Rutland gallery, hit sales targets and grow new client relationships.
The position requires someone with excellent face-to-face sales experience, who is confident and able to communicate with clients. The ideal candidate will have good organisational skills and computer literacy to support the gallery manager and enhance the day to day running of Gladwells Rutland. The ability to juggle a variety of tasks and work within tight deadlines is crucial, and to get stuck into all aspects of gallery life. The candidate will require excellent communication skills and a talent for maintaining a high level of customer service and be enthusiastic, motivated and able to work well within a small close knit team. An interest in the arts is essential.
This is a full time position across the Stamford and Rutland region (5 days a week). The gallery is open on Saturdays and Sundays and the candidate is required to work three weekends a month. Availability during art fairs and exhibitions in the UK as required.
Tasks will include but not be limited to the following:
- Welcoming potential and existing clients into the gallery, assisting with enquiries and maintaining sales targets.
- Planning and organisation of gallery exhibitions at Gladwells Rutland, pop-up exhibitions in West Deeping and events in the local area.
- Managing the ‘end-to-end’ sales experience, whilst working with the gallery manager on invoicing, certificates and other sale processes.
- Creating ‘client packs’, including preparing information packs for fairs and exhibitions
- Updating mailing lists, customer folders and online systems
- Day to day running of the gallery including answering phone and email enquiries, diary management, filing, maintaining tidiness of gallery space and ensuring office supplies are well stocked.
- Stock Control – maintaining that all paintings and sculptures are entered into the correct stock systems and they are correctly numbered and labelled
- Arrange shipments and deliveries to local clients.
- Liaise with the London gallery on operational and stock matters
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Proficiency on MAC with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel packages
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities
Excellent telephone etiquette
Effective interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
A strong interest in art or the luxury art market
Full clean drivers licence
