Job description
About Faculty
Faculty is one of Europe’s leading applied artificial intelligence companies. We build, deploy and operate AI solutions to increase our customers’ performance and help them realise their full potential.
We’re perhaps best known for our award winning COVID-19 Early Warning System, that helped the NHS to manage critical supply chains during the pandemic. But our work with over 300 customers to date has delivered impact for customers right across the economy.
Faculty is at an exciting moment in our development as a business. We are launching Frontier; a market leading decision intelligence product, to sit alongside our more established consulting work.
This is an equally important time for the adoption of AI in society. Conversational AI (like GPT3) and Creative AI (like DallE and Stable Diffusion) have given a glimpse into the transformative potential of the next wave of this technology.
It is our belief that Decision AI will have impacts on a similar scale, and fundamentally change the way operational decisions are made in organisations.
Our objective is that in five years time, Frontier will be the leading software in Decision AI category.
About the role
As a Frontend Engineer you will be joining one of our delivery teams or our product teams, with the opportunity to move across teams. Our delivery teams are responsible for visualising insights from the output of our data scientists, whilst our product team builds the technologies underpinning these projects. As a rapidly growing organisation, roles are dynamic and subject to change. Your role will evolve alongside business needs, but you can expect your key responsibilities to include:
- Prioritisation, planning, coordination and communication of frontend features within the frontend team but also to external stakeholders
- Maintain the best practices and standards common to Faculty's frontend capability
- Setting up and maintaining the development and deployment infrastructure for the frontend team you are a part of
- Work with our data scientists, data engineers, UI and UX designers to build client-facing products to bring Faculty's machine learning work to life
- Be involved with the product life cycle from idea generation to shipping
- Actively look out for the best open source technologies to be used in the development of Faculty's client-facing products
- Be the go-to authority for frontend software engineering within your team
- Create and maintain reusable component libraries that are used in projects company-wide
Who we're looking for
At Faculty, your attitude and behaviour are just as important as your technical skill. We look for individuals who can support our values, foster our culture, and deliver for our organisation.
We like people who combine expertise and ambition with optimism - who are interested in changing the world for the better - and have the drive and intelligence to make it happen. If you’re the right candidate for us, you probably:
- Think scientifically, even if you’re not a scientist - you test assumptions, seek evidence and are always looking for opportunities to improve the way we do things
- Love finding new ways to solve old problems - when it comes to your work and your professional development, you don’t believe in ‘good enough’. You always seek new ways to solve old challenges
- Are pragmatic and outcome-focused - you know how to balance the big picture with the little details and know a great idea is useless if it can’t be executed in the real world
- Have experience in working directly with clients and end users to conduct: Requirements Gathering, Technical Planning and Scoping
- Have a drive to learn new technologies and novel applications of existing technologies
- Technical mentoring
To succeed in this role, you'll need demonstrable experience in the following:
- Building scalable, maintainable, and tested web applications in React
- ES6 JavaScript, HTML, CSS3, or related web technologies
- Experience writing TypeScript or other typed languages
- Experience building backend APIs with Node JS
- Data visualisation techniques and implementations, such as d3
- Building and Design systems for use across multiple platforms
- Build tools, such as Webpack and Babel
If you don't meet these criteria, keep a look out on our careers page for any other opportunities that you'd like to apply for.
