The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are two of the UK’s most popular heritage railways, located in the heart of picturesque Snowdonia. Spooner’s is our main catering outlet situated on Harbour Station in Porthmadog, delivering a high level of service throughout the day.

We are looking for hardworking, enthusiastic individuals to join our dedicated team of front of house staff working in Spooner’s.

We can offer you:

  • £10.42 per hour for applicants aged 23 and over (National Living / Minimum Wage for age applies), £8.00 per hour for under 21s
  • Seasonal contract for immediate start to the 3rd November 2023, with the possibility of extension to January 2024
  • Full time or part time / job share positions available; a weekends and school holidays position may also be available
  • The pro rata equivalent of 29 days paid holiday, inclusive of all bank and public holidays

Key duties will include serving customers either at the café counter, at table, or at the bar; handling money, clearing tables and assisting with kitchen duties. Successful candidates may also be asked to work at the Tan y Bwlch Station Tea Room, providing variety and the opportunity to develop your skills. Experience of working in a café or restaurant would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided.

Core Skills:

  • Experience in a Front of House role
  • Team player
  • Good communication skills
  • The ability to work cleanly and tidily
  • A basic knowledge and understanding of food and kitchen hygiene is desirable
  • The ability to speak Welsh would be an advantage as would knowledge of the railways and their passengers; and the local area.

The successful candidate will thrive working in a fast-paced, busy environment. The ideal candidate would be flexible and able to work shifts over days, evenings and weekends.
