Youth Services Assistant
Part-Time Permanent

What You’ll Do
Our Youth Services Assistants create a welcoming environment for all members of the public and provide excellent front-line services that support and inspire our community in the exploration of reading, arts, innovation, and learning.
As a Youth Services Assistant, you will:
- Work collaboratively with the Old Post Office team to create a welcoming environment that is inclusive, equity-driven, and service-oriented
- Planning, organizing and leading various youth programs and activities with a STEAM focus and using hands-on technology in the Children’s Discovery Centre
- Greet all members of the public and assist them with their accounts and checking out materials
- Provide basic assistance in sourcing resources that meet their information needs (reference) and provide recommendations for new reading material (readers’ advisory)
- Assist members in the use of library technology and other technology for kids, such as computers, tablets, robotics, and other available equipment
- Promote relevant services, collections, resources, programs and events
- Manage, sort and shelve material in the Discovery Centre
- Have opportunities for training and continuous learning
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:
- An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
- Early Childhood Education diploma an asset
- Experience working in a service environment dealing with the public
- Experience working with computers, common software/applications, and other technologies
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- An inclusive and empathetic approach and a service-oriented mindset
- The ability to follow detailed processes and balance multiple tasks and responsibilities
- A passion for supporting the diverse interests and needs of the Cambridge community
- Ability to plan and execute programming for young audiences
- Experience working with children, programming and/or performance
- Familiar with current trends and technologies for children and teens

Pay: the starting rate of pay is $25.31 per hour
Hours: 30 to 34.25 hours in a two-week period
Schedule: working various day, evening, and weekend shifts

Thursday 9:45am-5:30pm (6.75 hours)*

Saturday 9:15am – 1:00pm (3.75 hours)
Sunday 12:45pm – 5:00pm (4.25 hours)
* Includes a 1-hour meal break
Note: schedules are service-driven and as such are subject to change. During Sunday closures (Victoria Day to Labour Day), the schedule is reduced from 34.25 to 30 hours in a two-week period.
