The Trainee Mechanical Fitter Field Service role will be trained and mentored to the skill level of a Mechanical Fitter. It will primarily involve travel to customer Power Plants in the UK supporting our external customers, with installation, stripdown, inspection, maintenance activities and reassembly of power units and their auxiliaries on units ranging from 2MW through to 2000MW on their sites at Sizewell, Torness, Heysham and Hartlepool. Essential Responsibilities:
- Follow Appropriate GE Policies, Procedures and complete necessary documentation
- Comply with the integrity and compliance guidelines as well as promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with applicable EHS policies and procedures
- Installation and preventative/ corrective maintenance on customer’s equipment be it Turbines, Generators, Auxilaries and Balance of Plant
- Evaluate customer equipment issues and implement appropriate repairs as part of a team.
- Develop an understanding of Engineering Drawings
- Develop an understanding of all aspects of mechanical engineering measuring techniques to very high tolerances
- Develop experience in Large Turbine Generator Overhaul
- Develop experience in Large Turbine & Generator Rotors
- Develop knowledge of Generator Hydrogen Seal Dismantle / Assembly
- Develop experience in Bearing Removal / Exchange ranging from approx. 4 inch to 21 inch Dia
- Develop experience in Concentricity & Alignments
- Develop experience in Auxillaries & Pumps
- Perform other suitable duties as assigned.
- Work under strict Foreign Material Exclusion rules.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Recognised Time served Apprenticeship in Engineering
- Achieved or working towards HNC, City & Guilds or NVQ Equivalent in Mechanical Studies preferred
- Travel to and from various field assignments will be required
- Driving License
- This position will be subject to Nuclear vetting
Desired Characteristics:
- Demonstrates individual & team skills
- Experience and training on Alstom, GE, Siemens or other OEM equipment would be an advantage
- Fluent in English language
- Strong organisational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
