Job description

As part of the Facilities team working across the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Portfolio, you'll help us ensure the health and safety of our teams, our visitors and our properties. If you like a varied day, overseeing service and maintenance contacts for our operational buildings, managing and reporting on risk and compliance activities, contributing to our climate and environmental management, providing business services support and financial management, this role would be perfect for you.

Contract Duration: Permanent

Hours: 30 hours per week

Salary: Between £17,721.6 and £22,620 dependant on experience

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you'll be joining a small team who look after all the compliance and maintenance needs for the 3 very different and diverse properties in our portfolio, Ashridge Estate (5,000 acres of the Chiltern Hills AONB including the largest area of broadleaf woodland in the National Trust, commons and rolling chalk downlands), Dunstable Downs (the Chilterns Gateway Centre on a windswept ridge surrounded by chalk grassland in the Chiltern Hills AONB) and Shaw’s Corner (the Edwardian villa that was playwright, politician, philosopher and wit George Bernard Shaw’s home for over 40 years).

You'll work closely with the Countryside team, Visitor Experience team and Shaw’s Corner House team and the Retail and Food & Beverage teams to keep our buildings and facilities safe and compliant and our business operations running smoothly.


What you'll be doing:You’ll be responsible for supporting the delivery of an efficient, effective and flexible facilities service, to enable the successful operation of all properties across the portfolio. You’ll support the portfolio team to meet its objectives by ensuring high standards are delivered and maintained at all times.

You’ll be assisting with the:

  • Delivery and monitoring of health, safety and compliance tasks ensuring that all the properties comply with current regulations.
  • Co-ordination of planned, preventative and reactive maintenance and repairs.
  • Delivery of climate and environmental objectives.
  • Data input and management of National Trust systems and databases.
  • Supervision of contractors.

You'll also be dealing with business services administration, financial management and other tasks to assist the Facilities Manager and the wider portfolio team. You'll be based at Ashridge Estate, but you will be required to travel to all our sites on a weekly basis.

  • Relevant experience in a business or customer service facilities role
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety compliance requirements
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work in collaboration with other teams
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Good written and verbal communications skills including some influencing
  • Advanced IT skills with the ability to learn and understand new systems
