JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Leader, assist in conducting recreational activities; prepare recreational facilities for participant use; and monitor recreational activities to ensure that activities are safe and appropriate. Assist in the setup, take down, and operation of the Lakewood farmers' market, summer concert series, and drive in movies at the park.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Lead indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
Assist participants in a variety of recreational programs including arts and crafts, field trips, games and sports.
Monitor recreational activities to ensure activities are safe and appropriate.
Assist in maintaining a variety of records.
Maintain program equipment in good working order; ensure facility and grounds are kept neat, clean and litter free.
Prepare recreational facilities for use; ensure that appropriate equipment is available for classes and events; set up and take down tables, other furniture and equipment.
Perform routine custodial work such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning hard surfaces and wiping up spills.
Provide first aid in case of minor injury.
Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance.Assist participants in a variety of recreational programs including arts and crafts, field trips, games and sports.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least eighteen years old and have an interest in community recreation and education programs.

General rules, practices and terminology of recreational activities.
Requirements of maintaining a recreational facility in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Proper methods of setting up and storing furniture, equipment, materials and supplies.
Methods, equipment and materials used in general custodial work.
Oral and written communications.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy and respect.
Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the community's citizens.
Basic record keeping techniques.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, parents, and instructors.
Work with children/adults of all ages.
Establish and maintain safe recreational environments.

Respond effectively to emergency situations and apply basic first aid.
Work evenings, weekends, holidays and special events as required.
ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed at a park, in a school or community center environment; an indoor/outdoor recreational environment subject to noise, distractions, seasonal heat and adverse weather conditions; and travel from site to site.

Physical agility and stamina; lifting, walking and overall physical movement; carrying, pushing or pulling; moderate lifting up to 50 pounds; seeing to read program materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information with others.
