OVERVIEW

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at the First Direct Arena as an Events Crew Manager. Working alongside the Events team, the Events Crew Manager will plan and oversee the Casual Events Crew. The role includes ensuring event set-ups, load ins and load outs are managed, promote good Health and Safety practices, training for the casual crew team and deliver exceptional service to touring Productions and events.

JOB PURPOSE

Planning and supervising the work of the Casual Events Crew during set up, event times and load outs of events as well as providing great service and help to Event Organisers.

Updating Health and Safety documentation and ensuring adequate crew training on venue policies, procedures and systems of work.

Responsible for the Inventory, Storage and Maintenance of the events department equipment.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Planning and supervising the work of the Casual Events Crew during set up, event times and load outs of events as well as providing direct contact with Event Organisers.

  • Recruitment, retention, training and induction of Casual Events Crew.
  • Supervision of Casual Event Crew and Casual Event Supervisors, including the planning of rotas to ensure adequate Event Crew cover is in place for all events.
  • Take lead in team building and ensure staff are kept motivated to work efficiently and to a high standard whilst keeping a positive attitude in the face of last-minute changes.
  • Planning and organising the turnaround, load in and load out of events. This includes, but is not limited to the following duties:

- Building the house stage, installing the house barrier; Use of the house drape systems for various seating configurations; Installation of the house seats; Maintenance and location of house follow spots.
- Setting up and dismantling other events spaces such as Suites and Lounge Areas to meet conference and events client’s requirements.
- Take a lead role from the venue side during the load in/load to the Promoter, Production or Event Organiser and throughout the event day act as a venue representative.

2. Updating Health and Safety documentation and ensuring adequate crew training on venue policies, procedures and systems of work.

  • Updating and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements relating to the Crewing team.
  • Deliver Health & Safety Inductions and training to new Crew team members and ensuring training records are up to date.
  • Follow ASM Global’s good practice on the reporting of incidents and/or near misses and ingraining a positive Health and Safety culture in the team.

3. Responsible for the Inventory, Storage, Housekeeping and Maintenance of the Events Department equipment.

  • To ensure all loaned equipment is collected, stored correctly and accounted for after each event and storage rooms and office kept in order.
  • Carry out regular inventory of event equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is treated with respect and any maintenance arranged.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • At least two years’ work experience in the events industry working with a team of Crew.
  • Experience of manual handling and use of mechanical handling equipment
  • Ability to understand CAD layout plans and be able to set up an event according to plan
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team with a ‘hands on’ approach.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with team members, clients/promoters, contractors and visiting production teams.
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety practices.
  • A Health and Safety qualification (such as IOSH) and/or practical experience in writing risk assessments and method statements would be an advantage.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and to share skills with team members.
  • Good interpersonal, social and communication skills
  • Physically fit as manual handling is a key part of this role.
  • The post holder will be required to work at height.
