The Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) network stretches across the UK and has specialist officers and staff working in a range of fields to thwart terrorist planning and help bring offenders to justice.

At the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) we coordinate the regional counter terrorist response and provide support to police forces in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Mercia and the West Midlands.

We’re looking for creative and motivated individuals to join our team of Intelligence Analysts delivering high quality intelligence products to drive decision making across the region and the wider CT policing network.

Based at our modern offices near to Birmingham International Airport, you’ll work Monday to Friday across a 36.5 hour working week, but an element of flexibility is necessary to meet business needs, including being part of a weekend on call rota. The role

The team are responsible for all strands of intelligence analysis within a local, regional, national and international context. You’ll be involved in the acquisition, evaluation, analysis and assessment of secret intelligence to support our priorities.

You’ll build up intelligence pictures, identifying potential risks and offenders in support of national priority counter terrorism operations. You’ll collate and validate intelligence, evaluating the reliability of sources and credibility of information using various analytical techniques to assess and interpret intelligence data. Working to a high level of integrity, you’ll routinely handle Secret information, and as such follow GPMS and other guidance with regard to handling and storing this data.

You’ll liaise and collaborate with colleagues to gather further information, which may help to piece together the whole picture and to give an in-depth strategic analysis to improve the CTP WM understanding of the many facets of terrorism and violent extremism.


Responsibilities

Providing comprehensive analytical products that interpret intelligence and provide clear understanding and guidance to drive the proactive acquisition of further intelligence and evidence.

Identifying risk, threat, vulnerabilities and opportunities in support of national security operations.

Providing complex evidential analysis and expert testimony at court to the highest of standard to secure the successful prosecution of terrorists.

Providing effective horizon and environment scanning products, distilling international events to provide the local impact and context.

Providing detailed strategic analysis to assist the organisational understanding of the multiple facets of terrorism and violent extremism, influencing decision making of Police Senior Officers and Intelligence Managers.

Delivering effective presentations and briefings at local, regional and national level.

Effective liaison with a variety of National Agencies, including Army, Police Forces / CT Capabilities, Local Authorities and other specialist.


Skills and competencies

Essential

Hold a relevant qualification in the subject area or have experience within a similar environment.

Ability to collate, evaluate, structure and process data, identifying patterns, series, similarities and discrepancies within a variety of information types.

Experience of interpreting data using recognised analytical techniques.

Experience of critical and strategic thinking, making recommendations from analytical findings to inform senior stakeholder decision making.

Experience in the use of computer software applications in relation to the charting and analytical preparation of data including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Experience of preparing and conducting presentations.

Demonstrable knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM).

Excellent communication skills in presenting analytical findings in verbal, graphical and written forms, ensuring these meet user needs.

Demonstration of a good organisational approach to work and prioritisation of activity, working within a team and on own initiative.

Knowledge of current global affairs with a focus on Terrorism and Security.

Desirable

Delivery of training to peers.

Intelligence Professionalisation Programme certificated.

Experience of managing intelligence within an operational context.

To be able to design and construct databases.

To be able to apply data science techniques to data sets including the use of coding.

You must be a British citizen to work for the Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTP WM). If you hold dual nationality, with the primary nationality British, you may also be considered. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants will be required to hold or acquire the appropriate national security vetting clearances of Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002). CTP WM will support preferred candidates through the appropriate vetting process.
