Job description

Oxford City Council is a forward thinking innovative local authority looking for a dynamic, experienced and enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer to play a key part in our multi-disciplinary Business Regulation Team. You will apply a wide range of regulatory measures aimed at maintaining the safety of our communities within the fields of Food Safety, Infectious Disease investigation and Workplace Health & Safety. You will be supported by an established team of experienced officers who have delivered excellent service in the face of challenges such as the Covid pandemic and changing regulatory demands.

You will be responsible for the monitoring and enforcement of standards with the ultimate aim of improving all categories of food premises for food hygiene. Checking and examining food safety management systems, serving notices and closing food premises where necessary all are part of the role. Similarly, dealing with notifications of infectious disease cases and outbreaks, conducting serious accident investigations and the preparation and serving of statutory notices under related legislation all will be involved. You will need to be comfortable with working in a busy environment and managing a diverse case load. The work requires the ability to communicate with a diverse stakeholder group including councillors, members of the public and other enforcement agencies. Team members also engage proactively with the communities they serve by attending forums and community groups to provide information and advice. We operate a flexible working policy.
