Job description
This role is critical to developing and maintaining our evidence base and plans to improve our water environment in Yorkshire.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to use your environmental knowledge and data management skills to work across disciplines to facilitate environmental improvements.
You will work with internal and external partners developing and interpreting evidence across Yorkshire’s river catchments. You’ll provide guidance for how we will deliver and develop opportunities to improve the water environment through:
- our catchment management system which helps us collect and report on Water Framework Directive (The Water Environment 2017),
- an integrated approach to planning and delivery by working with Area catchment teams.
- You’ll coordinate our Local Water Quality Monitoring. You will work with other teams in the area to influence and agree the Area annual monitoring programme. This supports our ambition to able to measure, monitor and report on the state of the environment through our local environmental monitoring and evidence commissions
Integrated planning is our ability to look at a defined geographical area and understand the pressures, risks and priorities. We join up our planning work to focus our resources, maximise the opportunities and talk to partners and communities about environmental concerns. This is fundamental to achieving our 25 Year Environment Plan ambitions.
Essential:
Be an excellent communicator, experienced at making sense of technical information and presenting it in a clear and logical way
Have influencing skills and be able to persuade internal teams and external partners to think strategically when delivering environmental outcomes.
Have a good understanding of the Water Framework Directive and how it helps address the environmental challenges in Yorkshire. You will be aware of how it links with other legislation.
Desirable:
Demonstrate political awareness when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities.
Have experience of working with data in a visual mapping context is desirable to help others access and use our evidence base.
Have experience of delivering work within a programme and project management framework to time, cost and quality is desirable.

The post is based in a Yorkshire office (Leeds, York, Beverley, Rotherham) with days working from home acceptable. You will be expected to travel to attend meetings, site visits and meet with partners throughout Yorkshire.
