Job description

We are looking for EFL teachers to teach groups of international students. Experience of teaching IELTS and Cambridge exam preparation classes is an advantage.

Essential requirements:
Applicants must
– have a degree (min. BA/BSc)
– have a minimum of a CELTA / CertTESOL qualification
– currently live within commuting distance of Malvern House Brighton
– have a satisfactory DBS check before the job commences

  • have a self-reflexive approach to your teaching and the desire to continue developing your knowledge and skills;
  • be skilled in identifying and targeting learners’ language needs;

Job description - English Language Teacher (EFL)

Reports to: Director of Studies

EFL Teachers teach General English, IELTS, Cambridge exams, and Junior courses to students from a range of backgrounds and ages. They are responsible for delivering lessons of the highest quality, complying with all school and British Council guidelines, alongside timely completion of administrative duties. Teachers also run social programme activities when required.

Essential duties and responsibilities

General

  • show commitment to Malvern International;
  • work co-operatively and effectively with all colleagues and management;
  • show commitment and follow the core policies of Malvern International, including the policies for Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent, Student Welfare and the Health and Safety;
  • promote safeguarding and welfare of students under 18 and vulnerable adults.

Teaching & Academic Standards:

  • be punctual, presentable and professional at all times;
  • maintain positive classroom rapport and be respectful and facilitative;
  • keep learning aims of lessons and the course as a whole clear, shared, and in line with the scheme of work;
  • ensure activities are appropriate, challenging, varied and interactive whenever possible;
  • introduce and allow practice of language that can be applied meaningfully and independently by students;
  • encourage students to participate actively in their own learning progress, both in and outside of the classroom;
  • manage lessons to ensure all students are involved, and levels of interest are high;
  • report any issues with students/classes to the Director of Studies;
  • monitor students’ learning, progress and achievement, and record and report on student progress, including details on attendance, attitudes to learning and additional needs;
  • seek and be open to feedback and make any adjustments to course design and delivery as appropriate.

Administration:

  • keep accurate and up-to-date records of work, weekly plans, student attendance and test results;
  • maintain a time sheet for hours worked if required;
  • complete and file oral placement tests when requested;
  • keep records and file monthly progress tests;
  • conduct monthly tutorials with students;
  • complete student progress reports as requested;
  • upload lessons and other materials online for students if using an IWB;
  • abide by CLA (Copyright Licensing Agency) regulations;
  • attend teachers’ meetings;
  • report under-18 absences to Reception;
  • contribute to the organisation and delivery of events for the student social programme if requested;
  • complete a risk assessment when students are taken outside the school.

Training and Development:

Teachers are encouraged to constantly strive to improve their own performance and identify areas for self-improvement, attending appropriate training. Teacher support and development has these main components:

  • observations (formal, peer and buzz observations) including lesson plans and a post-lesson self-reflection;
  • annual appraisals;
  • student and staff survey feedback;
  • attending CPD sessions (workshops, seminars and conferences on practical aspects of teaching).

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Zero hours contract

Salary: £16.00-£19.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
