Caterpillar Peterlee – Apprenticeship Recruitment 2023 (Engineering Technician)

Apprenticeship: Advanced (Level 3)

Hours: 36.5 (Full-Time)

Salary: £13,197 (will increase in line with the academic calendar each year)

Caterpillar are recruiting for three Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) as an Engineering Technician to work at our Peterlee facility in the following areas:

  • Maintenance

  • Robot Technician

  • Electrical/Mechanical

Working for Caterpillar

Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat® Articulated Trucks, currently producing an 8-model range used in many industries including mining, construction, and aggregates. The facility's manufacturing activities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotic technology, and a state-of-the-art paint plant. Machines from the site are shipped to customers around the world.

During the course of the apprenticeship, students will work towards achieving their qualification supported by their line manager, technical mentor and Learning & Development team in addition to their academic learning through their training provider and work-based assessor.

Structure of the apprenticeship

Level 3 - Engineering Technician: The first year of the apprenticeship will be spent studying full time at a local college. Following this, years 2 - 4 are spent in the workplace with a weekly day release to college. Day release to college may reduce to 3 years depending on existing qualifications.

Background/ Experience required

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (including English, Maths and Science) OR
  • 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (including English, Maths and Science) AND Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) OR 3 GCSEs AND GCSE in Engineering related subject OR 3 GCSE’s AND A-Level in Engineering or Science related subject.
