Job description

We’re delighted to be launching our Apprentice Engineering Technician programme, in conjunction with our training partners South Devon College. Based across the Newton Abbot, Torquay and Totnes area, these roles involve repairing and maintaining our assets to ensure we can continue to deliver for our customers.
This is a varied and interesting role, where there will be countless opportunities to develop both your technical knowledge and abilities. We’ll provide you with a cross-functional role across mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines. You’ll work towards gaining a recognised professional qualification as you learn, and can look forward to great prospects and a long-term career with one of the South West’s largest employers.
We want to find ambitious, hard-working individuals with a strong desire to succeed within the engineering profession. This role will be paid a competitive apprentice starting salary of £17,065 for your first year's service, and will increase to £20,586 after 12 months with the company. You'll also be eligible for our internal bonus scheme, as well as any company-wide pay increases that are offered during this time.

What you'll be doing:

  • Completing a Level 3 Maintenance Technician apprenticeship via our training partners - a structured programme of training conducted within the state-of-the-art Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departmental workshops
  • Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment by working to our approved codes of practice
  • Become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of machine tools
  • Develop fitting and assembly skills
  • Electrical maintenance and fault-finding investigations
  • Training in the use of mechanical & electrical software packages
  • Carrying out other tasks and duties as directed that contribute to the required levels of performance and competence

What we'll offer you:

  • The coaching and mentoring required to support you in fulfilling your role, working towards becoming an independent engineer
  • A structured induction and training programme, fully supported by the business
  • Time for off-the-job training to attend college and/or support the apprentice programme
  • Regular reviews between you, the college and the business to ensure you are receiving the support and knowledge you need to fulfil your role
  • The opportunity to continue your training into Higher Apprenticeships
  • Paid holiday leave – 23 days for your first year's service, to increase over time
  • The opportunity to partake in the company’s Sharesave scheme
  • Free car parking
  • Company pension scheme and other perks

What we'd like from you:

  • Ideally 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C (9 to 4) – but for the right person, this isn’t essential
  • An ambitious mindset
  • A strong work ethic
  • The willingness to learn and develop
  • A keen interest in engineering and how things work
Applications for these roles will close on Friday 31 March 2023.

Please be aware we are expecting successful candidates to start with the business in September 2023.
