Trainee Engineering Surveyor – Apprenticeship 2023 – London

What will you be doing?


As a site-based Trainee Engineering Surveyor, you will become part of our Infrastructure team, where we will make it our ambition to prepare you for a successful and rewarding career in Engineering Surveying.


Alongside our experienced surveyors, civil engineers and construction professionals, you will learn the following tasks throughout your apprenticeships:


  • Providing a topographical survey in preparation for engineering works on site, setting out for the works, reports and measures and final survey information
  • Ensuring that the construction project have the appropriate survey control network to fulfil the construction requirements
  • Providing expert advice end estimation of cost to the project team on site geospatial needs and requirements
  • Setting out the works in accordance with the contract requirements before work is programmed to commence
  • Sharing expert advice and guidance to the members of the engineering survey teams and other parts of the business related to engineering surveying and geospatial best practice
  • Reviewing with the engineering team that sufficient information is available
  • Ensuring that the Geospatial technical expertise is available for the project
  • Ensuring that advances in technology are used to optimise operational efficiency and are cost efficient.


What qualification will you be studying towards?

Geospatial mapping and science specialists interpret and analyse geospatial data (data relating to geographic position on the earth's surface) and use leading-edge digital technology such as laser scanning, Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing and imagery. They provide data analysis and advice for mapping, satellite navigation systems (Satnavs), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), infrastructure, the identification of local, suburban or international boundaries, military, mining and a wide range of other purposes


What will we need from you?


  • A levels (grades A*-C), one of these ideally in Maths or Physical Sciences, however we will consider applications from all A level subjects. You may also hold a BTEC Extended National Diploma or equivalent level 3 qualification.
  • You will need to hold 5 GSCEs including Maths and English (grade 4 or above) for us to successfully enrol you on this apprenticeship
  • Keen interest in digital technology solutions
  • You will need to enjoy Maths and Physics as engineering is based on these
  • Enthusiasm to learn and pro-activeness in your approach to work
  • New ideas to help us innovate and work better

Where will you be working?


You will be based on one of our London based Civil Engineering projects. Your first project will be IPC Euston.


What are we doing on the IPC Euston project?


We are carrying construction works as part of the Network Rail IPC (Infrastructure Project Central) framework. We are transforming Euston Station, delivering capacity enhancement and improved journeys for 44 million people who use the station every year.


You will spend your time between office and site and, therefore, you will need to be able to, and enjoy working outdoors and in all weathers. Please note that due to the nature of construction, our work moves to other locations over time.
