Primary purpose:

Manage the Instrumentation, Electrical, and Controls (IEC) Engineering group. The team provides sustaining and project IEC engineering support to facilities and pipelines used in the gathering, processing, and transportation of natural gas and crude oil. Group responsibilities include planning, design, implementation, and ongoing support for automation and control at these facilities.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the group engineering workload on projects involving natural gas and crude oil gathering, transmission, processing, compression, and automation.
  • Provide direct engineering support as needed on large capital projects.
  • Lead effort in maintaining Tallgrass’ Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, Drawing Standards, and Operating & Maintenance Procedures as they pertain to IEC engineering disciplines. Help ensure these standards/procedures are compliant with regulations.
  • Coordinate activities with other business units such as Project Management, Operations, System Design, Business Development, etc.
  • Assist with departmental and project related budgeting and planning.
  • Collaborate with management to develop short and long term continuous improvement planning. Track and manage strategic planning on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to establish an effective and cooperative team environment.
  • Communicate regular status reports on a variety of projects
  • Provide technical support as needed during working and non-working hours.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years direct work experience in the energy industry.


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).


Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong project coordination, planning and overall management skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the design and operation of automation systems for natural gas and oil facilities, including compressor/pump stations, storage facilities, and processing facilities.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC and Wonderware InTouch HMI systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple groups comprised of professionals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with all levels of management as well as employees in corporate and field offices
  • Strong leadership skills with a history of leading teams to complete projects. A history of executing projects with challenging circumstances is preferred.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • The individual must be self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong presentation and report writing skills
  • Position requires occasional travel
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.

Working Conditions:

  • Required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.


Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Must manage a group of engineering professionals.


PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Medium and High voltage experience, including equipment specification and sizing.
  • Experience supervising or managing individuals.
  • Familiarity with regulations governing interstate pipelines systems; including, PHMSA Pipeline Safety Regulations (Title 49 CFR Parts 190-199)
  • Familiarity with natural gas fired reciprocating engines, turbines, and electric motors used to drive natural gas compressors
  • Familiarity with electric pumps used in crude oil transmission Experience in the design and construction of pipeline facilities.
  • Experience with pipeline integrity projects and the associated remediation/repair methods pipelines.
