An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Power Distribution System Engineer to join our growing team, working on a technology development programme for a more-electric power and propulsion platform in advance of a New Product Introduction programme.
This is an ideal opportunity to work on multiple stages of the technology development process and product lifecycle.
Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) is a separate operating business unit within Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, with a global footprint focussing on developing complete electric propulsion systems for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) and commuter aircraft, as well as supporting our Civil Aerospace, Defence, and Power Systems business units.
Current activities in RRE are focused on the development of more-electric, hybrid and full electric propulsion systems, including electrical power generation, power conversion, energy storage, and electrical power distribution.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Derive requirements for electrical distribution system components including harnesses, carry out trade studies, design and evaluation, and demonstration through to initial production.
  • Specify cables and conductors for Aircraft electrical power systems, working with electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical design specialists to estimate their properties and select component characteristics based on the operating conditions and environment.
  • Carry out design for assembly and wear and deterioration assessments.
  • Work with installation engineers to develop physical harness layouts and installation kits.
  • Work with Aerospace cable suppliers as an intelligent customer to support adoption of latest technology and drive future requirements.
Who we’re looking for:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent, with an electrical bias.
  • Good understanding of the electrical, mechanical and thermal effects on electric power distribution and harnesses with relevant experience in design / development preferably in the Aerospace or adjacent industry.
  • A level of appreciation of the influence of electrical distribution system design strategies on other non-electrical systems and vice-versa, and the collective impact to the product, including EMI, shielding and electrical grounding and bonding.
  • Experience of Aerospace or Automotive certification & qualification standards (e.g. ARP4754A, CS-25, DEF STAN 00-970, ISO26262, ECE R100 etc…) and their application to Aerospace HVDC electrical distribution systems preferred i.e. "Aerospace HVDC".
  • Experience of electrical cable standards (e.g. IPC/WHMA-A-620D, IEC 60664-1 / IEC 60664-4, SAE AIR6127, SAE AIR7506 etc…) and an awareness of wiring and harness design software tools (e.g. Siemens VeSys, Zuken E3.series etc…) preferred.
To work on Defence project, you will need to be UK based, have the right to work in UK, not be a US national and have been cleared through the company’s BPSS checks (Baseline Personnel Security Standard up to OS).
