Job description
We are looking for a Senior Molecular Scientist to join a highly innovative research programme to deliver a simple rapid molecular multiplex test which deploys technologies such as CRISPR. This new technology platform will require an individual who is able to work collaboratively with our overseas consortium members in the USA and lead associated molecular lateral flow assay development activities in GADx, UK. Reporting to the GADx project programme lead the individual will be expected to work with a cross-functional team from initial concept towards market release. The candidate should have a strong background in molecular nucleic assay development, DNA/RNA extraction processes and ideally microfluidic technologies.
Essential
- Design and development of molecular diagnostic assays including primer/probe design.
- Development of process for extraction of nucleic acids from complex matrices’ such as nasal, blood, environmental samples.
- Demonstrate ability to apply technical and innovative approaches to new product development.
- Develop and execute studies including proof-of-concept, feasibility, and assay optimisation under minimum supervision.
- Design and implement different test methods and specifications to evaluate assay performance.
- Technical liaison (to include face to face meetings and report writing) with external partners.
- Review of relevant literature, creative thinking, and application to problem solving.
- Ability to work collaboratively with immunoassay lateral flow assay scientists.
- Proven ability to work independently, effectively plan and organise work activities and prioritise task completion to meet project deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Research, design and development of molecular assays from design to product commercialisation.
- Demonstrable experience of oligo design for paper-based hybridisation lateral flow assay.
- Demonstrable experience of microfluidics assay development.
- Demonstrable experience of small molecule chemistry and lyophilisation as a pivotal step towards manufacture.
- Demonstration of applying assay development and evaluating for feasibility.
- CRISPR-like technology experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular biology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field; or
- PhD plus 5 years of experience in molecular systems and extracting from complex sample matrices; or
- 10 years academic and industrial experience in molecular systems and extracting from complex sample matrices
