Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be familiar with installation of residential and commercial electrical work: Underground, Lighting, Lighting Control, Branch Wiring (Romex, M/C Cable, EMT, Rigid), Feeder Conduits, Feeder Cabling / Termination, Switchgear, Transformers, Panels, Equipment Hook-up, Generators, Lighting Control, and Device Make-up. Must be familiar with the NEC.
  • Foremen / Journeymen must be able to read and understand blue prints and electrical one line diagrams.
  • Organized, flexible and dependable
  • Team player
  • Strong interpersonal contacts; able to work in a team environment.
  • Manage stress and/or fast-pace effectively.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Experience for Journeymen:

  • 5 years minimumelectrical construction experience

Experience for Foremen:

  • 6 years minimumelectrical construction experience
  • 1 year_ minimum_ being a lead or foreman on a job

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to hear and speak to communicate with others and to use a telephone and 2-way radio.
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Primarily walking, standing, and bending.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms.

Work Conditions:

  • Construction field environment from exposed underground to finished buildings.
  • Varying temperatures and loud noises.
  • Must work on-site; no telecommuting permitted.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working in a highly critical, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE in performing tasks.

Primary Electrician Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility is to install all aspects of commercial electrical installation in accordance with plans and specifications for all of our commercial projects. Completed assemblies are often manufactured from our prefabrication warehouse, then shipped to the job sites for field installation by licensed journeymen and apprentices.
  • Report job progress and issues to the Foreman regularly, accurately, and objectively.
  • Keep a harmonious working relationship with employees and coordinates the electrical work with multiple schedule constraints.
  • Complete a task analysis for the upcoming one to two weeks and determines the amount of manpower and materials required to complete the tasks.
  • Know the approximate estimated time that was budgeted to do each task, and whether it can be done most efficiently with one worker, two, or a larger crew.
  • Plan and lay out the work so that it will comply with the specifications and codes, can be installed with the least interference to and from other trades, and will make the most efficient and uniform use of manpower, tools, and equipment throughout the prefabrication department.
  • Anticipate as far in advance as possible the need to increase or decrease the work force. Advises the foreman of crew’s tentative schedule of manpower needs and changes in the schedule as promptly as they can be determined.
  • Assign each worker or apprentice under your charge to available work which they can do their best.
  • Coach any worker whose skills for doing an assigned task are deficient.
  • Make an attempt to place each worker on a task which will constantly challenge him/her to improve his/her skills.
  • Ensure that employees under your supervision are complying with all company policies, including policies and procedures related to safety, attendance, conduct, performance, etc.
  • Know and strictly enforce all job and company safety rules; set a good example of safe practices; promptly correct any potential hazard that can be corrected by your crew; report other hazards immediately to those responsible; and warn everyone on the crew of possible causes of accidents.
  • Lay out jobs for employees and make sure each knows his/her tasks and the most efficient methods for completing them. Coach employees on ways to enhance performance and develop their career growth.
  • Anticipate material needs in plenty of time to place orders and get deliveries without crisis.
  • Anticipate needs well in advance so there is no loss of productive time waiting for tools, materials, or instructions. Insist that employees report losses or shortages of tools or materials promptly so we can take the necessary corrective action can be taken.
  • Make requests to the foreman when it is necessary to remove an employee from the job who fails to perform satisfactorily.
